The Wabash Valley loves Halloween. In fact, we love it so much that we have TWO nights of official city trick or treating (click HERE for dates and times). On top of that, several local organizations host amazing (and mostly free) Halloween events! You can find all sorts of seasonal fun in this 2018 guide to Halloween including pumpkin parties, not-so-spooky fun, and trunk or treat options for Terre Haute and the Wabash Valley.
Halloween Events and Trunk or Treat in Terre Haute and the Wabash Valley
Oct 23-26 and Oct 29-30. 12:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. Halloween Costume Swap at VCPL West Branch. All ages: Save money, reduce waste and be creative with random accessories or gently used outfits this Halloween. Visit the West Branch to leave what you can and take what you need to create your perfect costume.
Tues and Wed October 30 and 31. Halloween Tree at American Rental. Halloween tree with candy for kids and candy giveaway during store hours for Tuesday 9 am to 6pm and Wednesday 9 am to 5. Want to host a trunk or treat but don’t have a parking lot? You can use the lot at American Rental Terre Haute! Contact them directly to make arrangements.
Tues October 30. 9:30-10:30 a.m. Story Time Tuesday at Terre Haute Chick-fil-A. Come dressed in your favorite costume. Fall activities and a story. Kids 12 and under can enjoy a free 4 count Chicken Mini.

October 31. Halloween special at The Meeting Grounds. Free hot chocolate and candy to anyone dressed in costume.
October 31. 6:00-8:00 p.m. Harvest Party at Foursquare Gospel Church. Join us for free food, games, face painting, cakewalk and more. Games for children toddler through elementary age.
October 31. 5:00-7:00 p.m. Trick or treat at Meadows Shopping Center. Trick or treat at the Meadows stores! Several stores and non-profit booths will be passing out candy for your little trick or treaters! Participating Stores and Non-Profits include: Stein Mart, The Stork Stop, The Classic Man, Ace Blind & Drapery, and CODA.
October 31. 5:00-6:00 p.m. Trick or treating at Honey Creek Mall. Participating stores will hand out candy at their doors; walk the mall and stop at stores that have the orange “Trick-or-Treat Here” signs posted. Costumes are welcome, but no face masks or weapons will be allowed for the safety and security of all. We want to make this a frightfully enjoyable evening for everyone.
October 31. Halloween Palooza at Clinton Public Library. Make sure to stop by the Clinton Public Library on Halloween for crafts, games, snacks, and a family costume parade! This community Halloween Palooza will take place in the Library parking from 6 to 8pm. FREE event! Craft tables, Snacks, Movie, Scary Story time, and Costume Parade at 6:30!
October 31. The Bridge Church. Haunted house, games, cotton candy, face painting, hot dogs and drinks.

Fri October 5. First Friday: Harvest in the Haute. Carving pumpkins at Barnes and Noble and other fun events in downtown Terre Haute.
Sat October 6. 10:00 a.m.-noon. FREE pumpkin for any child accompanied by an adult at French Funeral Home in Brazil, Indiana. While supplies last.
Sat and Sun October 6 and 7. Cowtober Fest at Fair Oaks Farms in Fair Oaks, IN. Admission is free. Costumes welcome. Trick or treating, hay maze, free wagon rides. This is a bit of a drive from Terre Haute, but Fair Oaks Farm is popular with families in the Wabash Valley.
Fri October 12. Franken Fest at the Vigo County Public Library. Spend an adult-only night out celebrating the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein”. Sip experiment-inspired cocktails from our full bar and enjoy a delicious, free liquid nitrogen ice cream with mix-ins from Sweet Science.
Sat October 13. Halloween Creatures: Not So Scary. Bats, spiders, crows, vultures, rats, owls, frogs, and snakes all have their place in our ecosystem. Discover just how awesome these creatures really are. Call 812-877-1095 for questions or registration. $1.50 craft fee.
Sat Oct 13. 5:00 p.m. Harvest Party by The Sycamore Winery and Big Leaf Brewing. Pumpkin patch, live music, food trucks, pumpkin chucking contest, hot cocoa, fire pits, ciders, and autumn inspired cocktails. Just a few of our favorite things.
Mon October 15. Watch This! Frankenweenie at the West Branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Celebrate the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein with refreshments, drop-in activities, and a special showing of Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie.
Families and kids love spending time with our calendar sponsor, Ms. Rhonda at KinderCenter. This season, she’s hosting drop-in pumpkin sessions! Pumpkin games, activities, crafts, pumpkin decorating, and a snack! Three different choices of time and date.
Fri October 19. Once Upon a Mystery at the West Branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Some of your favorite fairy tale characters have gathered for a great celebration, but one of them may be hiding a dark secret. Enjoy food and drinks while working to solve a mystery. Costumes are allowed but not required. Pick-up begins promptly at 8:30. Grades 6-12.
Fri October 19. Dog Costume Contest at Deming Park. Dress your dog up in the best costume and bring them out to Deming Park. We will have prizes for 1st, 2nd, and People’s Choice. Pre-registration is suggested! Just call 812-232-0147.

Sat October 20. Full Gospel Assembly of God will be hosting their annual Trunk or Treat on Saturday, October 20th from 5-7 PM. There will be food, games, candy, a hayride, a cakewalk and more. Sat October 20. Fall Harvest Fest at Fresh Thyme. We’re going to have a Spooktacular Thyme celebrating with our Fall Harvest Festival! Join us for pumpkin decorating, live entertainment and delicious fall themed samples throughout the store. We hope you will come out and join us for some creative fun, treats and pick up a some of your Fresh Thyme favorites!
Sat Oct 20. 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Halloween Mini Sessions. Bring out your little ghouls and goblins, princesses and pirates, and capture all their fun, spooky glory with amazing photos by Bryan Cantwell Photography! It’s $30 for a 15 minute photo session, and you are guaranteed at least 5 digital photos.
Sat October 20. BeWitching Ball at Zorah Shrine. Get your witches costumes ready & join us October 20th for this great Halloween event. The 1st Annual BeWitching Ball with Eddie and the Motivators performing. Fleschner, Stark, Tanoos & Newlin will be offering free cab rides home from the event that evening from 8pm until midnight.
October 24. Zombie Escape Room for 6th-12th graders. A new twist on an old event. On October 31 from 6:30-8pm Maryland Community Church will be turning the 12 Points Campus into an escape room where zombies may be lurking in any corner. Watch out don’t let them find you before you find the way out! This event is for all 6th-12th grade students. This is not something you want to miss and it’s a great event to bring friends to!
Thur October 25. Healthy Halloween Spooktacular at the Terre Haute Children’s Museum. The Rural Health Innovation Collaboration, the Terre Haute Children’s Museum and several community partners will join forces to present the “Healthy Halloween Spooktacular!” Kids are encouraged to dress in costume as there will be a photo booth and costume contest with prizes! Plus, guests will get to check out many activity stations created by a several community partners to show the fun and not-so-spooky side of healthy living and making healthy choices! Admission is only $2 and all tickets will be sold at the door!
Thur October 25. Fall Family-style party for Grand Opening celebration of First Farmers Bank & Trust on October 25th from 4-7. There will be games and food with lots of candy for the kids to come and enjoy the holiday in a safe environment. We will have a Smore’s bar, hot dogs, popcorn, cookies, candy and more! Fri October 26. Ready to Read Costume Party Storytime at the West Branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 0-5: Come dressed up for Halloween! Sing along to music, move your bodies with egg shakers and scarves, hear spooky (and not so spooky) stories and create a tasty craft. Each child will receive a special Halloween treat. Parents and caregivers are invited to participate with their children during this special storytime.
Fri October 26. Trunk or Treat at Ryves Youth Center Parking Lot. Join Wabash Valley Habitat for Humanity and our community partners in a spooktacular, family friendly Trunk or Treat!! Join us for a night of costumes, fun, and candy! Free and open to everyone!

Halloween Events in Terre Haute for October 27, 2018 (Saturday)
Join the fun at the Altrusa Chili Cook-off! Doors open at 11am. Stop by and sample chili from over 20 different booths. $1 gets you in the door, $0.50 gets you a sample. All proceeds benefit Altrusa of Terre Haute, supporting literacy in the Wabash Valley.

October 27. Trunk or treat at First Christian Church in Brazil, Indiana. Trunk or Treat is happening at First Christian Church! We will be having this at the FCC parking lot! We will have snacks, candy, and inflatables for the whole family to enjoy! Bring your kids and show off your Halloween best!
October 27. Trick or Treat with the Vigo County School Corporation Bus Drivers. Come and bring your ghosts and goblins trunk-or-treating and meet some of the amazing school bus drivers!
October 27. Halloween Party at ISU Barnes and Noble. We will be reading a Haunted Tale and working on spooky crafts together. We encourage everyone to come dressed up but it is not required. The Event is free and is set up as a come in go as you please so no need to be on time or stay until the end. We hope you can make it in for some fun.
October 27. Trunk or Treat Fun Festival. The Emmanuel Church in West Vigo is inviting all kids and families in the community to join us for our Trunk or Treat Fun Festival on Saturday, October 27th, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. The Westside Hometown Holiday parade starts at 3:00PM at IGA and ends at the VCPL, West Branch at 4:30PM where you can take part in the costume contest and collect a variety of treats in a safe environment. Stop by the library trunk for a free book, while supplies last.
October 28. 6:00. Halloween Costume Contest at Bogey’s Family Fun Center. Must be 13 years of age or under to participate. Prizes will be given for Scariest, Cutest, Funniest, and Best Homemade. Prizes will also be given to all participants.
