70 Fun Things to Do in June! Wabash Valley and Terre Haute Events

Can you believe it? Summer vacation has officially started for most local school corporations! To help your family make the most of this beautiful month and fun season, we’ve put together this calendar filled with 75 Terre Haute events for June. Grab your calendar and tell your friends and family members that you want to have some fun with the kids this summer!

If you’d like to join “Peekaboo I Love You” (for infants to 18 months) or “Beach Days” (for ages 18 months to 3 years) by the week of June 11, you can still do six classes this summer!

There are also three drop in PlayShops in June! PlayShops are fun, educational sessions that include songs, movement activities, a story and crafts for ages 3-5 all centered on a theme. Each PlayShop is unique since each PlayShop has a different theme.

June 21. 9:00 a.m. Game Creator Workshop. Build a computer game from the ground up! Vigo County 4-H is holding a Game Creator Workshop. Youth will learn how computer games are created, and get to work together to build a game of their own. From the characters to the backgrounds, they will learn it all! Everyone is welcome, but space is limited!

June 22. 10:00 a.m. Bricks 4 Kids- Preschool at VCPL. Ages 3-5: Bricks 4 Kidz is learning, building, and playing. Enjoy storytime and a new building activity each week.

June 22 and 23. Free musical presentation of The Railway Children. Theatre for kids performed by kids.

June 23. 9:15 a.m. Baby Explorer: Discover and Explore Sounds at The Terre Haute Children’s museum. Stimulate your baby’s sense of sound during this month’s Baby Explorer class. Discover and Explore Sounds workshop integrates literacy, science, music and art as we explore different objects that make sounds, animal sounds, sounds from air, musical instuments, loud and soft sounds. Baby Explorer is for ages 0-2 and their caregiver. Included with admission.

June 23. 10:30 a.m. Tot Time: Air is All Around Us at The Terre Haute Children’s museum. Air is a part of children’s everyday life, but it is colorless and odorless.  Join us to explore the air we cannot see by investigating how it fills things up and makes things move.  Tot Time is an interactive, educational program for children ages 2-5 and their caregiver that includes story time, hands-on learning activities, and an opportunity to explore museum exhibits afterwards. Parent participation is mandatory, and a parent/ child ratio of 1:3 is requires. Included with admission.

June 23. Hawaiian BBQ & Luau at WaterTower Estates. This is a NO COVER family friendly event including the amazing BBQ of Bobby-Ques as well a the Island music of Kenny Kipp + Steel Drums! We will also be debuting our new Wine Popsicles, and a new ice cream bar for children!

June 23. Summer Celebration at the West Branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Rock out with The Lemon Brothers Band and The Max Power Trio at this community summer block party with music, food, games and activities for all ages. Attendees will receive one free Kona Ice. Additional food will be available for purchase from various local food vendors. West Branch will be open for all regular services from 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

June 25. West Gamers’ Alliance at VCPL West Branch. Ages 8-14: Join the West Gamers’ Alliance to play video games – competitive and cooperative, old and new – and enjoy snacks while hanging out with friends.

June 25. 8 a.m. – noon. Join the inflatable fun at Deming Park with WBGL’s Backyard Bounce. Free!

June 25. 10:00 a.m. Babies and Books at VCPL. Ages 0-18 Months: Join us for a 30 minute lap-sit program for babies. A 30 minute optional play will be available after storytime.

June 25. Meet the Rex Downtown. Come meet and greet the Rex Baseball players in front of the Chamber of Commerce. Free autographs, bounce house for the kids and take your picture with Slugger! Free hot dogs provide by the Exchange Club and drinks by Refreshment Services Pepsi.

June  22, 27, 29. 1:00-1:20 p.m. Milk: Farm to Table Demo at The Terre Haute Children’s Museum. How does milk get from moo to you? This short demonstration will show how milking machines work, how milk is chilled for transportation and storage, and then turn milk into cottage cheese and butter – right in front of your eyes! In fact, audience members will be needed to assist in all these experiments. Included with admission

June 26. 12:30 p.m. -2:30 p.m.  Mobile Recreation at Dobbs Park. It’s SUMMER time! Bring the kids out this summer, to join in on the fun with the Terre Haute Parks & Recreation Mobile Activities Trailer. We will be scheduled to attend various parks throughout the summer. We will be offering a variety of recreational activities for 2 hours on the scheduled dates.

June 26. 11:00 a.m. Mother Goose on the Loose at West Branch VCPL. Ages 0-5: Join Mother Goose for an interactive storytime with books, songs, rhymes and musical instruments.  You and your child will play together and develop early literacy skills.

June 26. 1:00 p.m. Art Start at Swope Art Museum. Young artists are invited to experience this free art program that uses books and corresponding art projects to encourage creativity. For children ages 3 – 5 accompanied by an adult. Explore the Museum together with an interactive gallery guide to build on the Art Start experience.

June 26-30. Clay City Fair. 

June 27. 6:30 p.m. 79th Annual Clay City Fair Parade. This is the staple of the fair program! Sign up for your entry to be in the parade this year and have all your friends and family come out to watch the parade and get TONS of candy!!!!

June 28. 10:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. Mobile Recreation at Brittlebank Park. It’s SUMMER time! Bring the kids out this summer, to join in on the fun with the Terre Haute Parks & Recreation Mobile Activities Trailer. We will be scheduled to attend various parks throughout the summer. We will be offering a variety of recreational activities for 2 hours on the scheduled dates.

June 28. 1:00-3:00 p.m. Hands-on Science: 4-H Robots at The Terre Haute Children’s Museum. Did you know 4-H does robots? Try your hand at driving a few invented by 4-H participants. Included with admission.

June 28. 6:00 p.m. Watch This! Game Night at Main Branch VCPL. Max and Annie’s weekly couples game night takes an unexpected turn during an interactive role-playing mystery game when the participants find themselves entangled in a real-life mystery.

June 29. 10:00 a.m. Bricks 4 Kids- Preschool at VCPL. Ages 3-5: Bricks 4 Kidz is learning, building, and playing. Enjoy storytime and a new building activity each week.

June 29. 6:00 p.m. Viridian: World Premiere at Indiana Theater. Viridian is a film inspired by local history and folklore which tells the story of a vaudeville actress navigating the ethical repercussions of pretending to communicate with the dead for easy money in 1929 Indiana. General admission is $15 and seniors/students are $12. There will be an opening musical performance before the screening with an end-time of 9:00pm. Come dressed as either formal, 1920s period, or as your favorite Wizard of Oz character.

June 30. 8:00 a.m. Wabash Valley Teen Challenge 2nd Annual Golf Scramble at Hulman Links Golf Course.

June 30. 8:00 a.m. Firecracker 5K Walk/Run Presented by Riddell National Bank at Clay City YMCA. This race is presented by Riddell National Bank! Thank you for sponsoring the YMCA 3-Race Series. $20.00 Late entry after June 16th: $25.00 Entry fee must be paid at the time of registration.

June 30. Kid Night Out at the Vigo County YMCA. Ages 18 months – 12 years are welcome to join the party this month on Saturday, June 30th at the YMCA! June 30. 9:30 a.m. Hot Rods For Heroes. Reach Veterans Services will be hosting our very first Hot Rods For Heroes this Summer! We want everyone to come out and enjoy a day filled with classic cars, motorcycles, food and fun! Registration for this event will be $10 prior to the event or $15 at the door. We will be offering awesome prizes for the winners of the car/ motorcycle show as well as have a full bar, food and music for everyone to enjoy. Bring your families and help us make this event one to remember!

June 30. Creepy Crawly Fest. Snakes, spiders, lizards, frogs, insects and everything in between. Let us celebrate our creepy crawlies today with live animal shows, crafts, face painting and more. June 1. 11:00 a.m. Picnic at the Plaza. Art Spaces, Inc. is hosting a public picnic as part of Turn to the River, a multi-year project of Art Spaces, Inc. to reconnect Terre Haute’s downtown with the Wabash River through public art and design. The picnic will take place at 17 Harding Street (between Terre Haute City Hall and Vigo County Courthouse) on Friday, June 1, 2018 from 11 am to 2 pm. Food and drinks will be available for purchase from four vendors.. People may also bring their own food.  There is no charge to attend the event.

June 1. Strawberry Fest 2018 in Brazil, IN. Join Christmas In The Park Inc, as we make some tasty treats June 1st 2018 as we put on our annual Strawberry Festival! Location: Brazil Court House Lawn.

June 1. 5:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. First Friday– Get Fit Downtown. Bring your friends and family to Downtown Terre Haute and learn about getting fit while having fun! Sign up for the Foam Run, join the Rad Ride, visit informational booths, enjoy the art galleries or have a healthy dinner.

June 1. 5:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. First Friday: Sidewalk Fitness Fun at The Children’s Museum. Sidewalk Fitness Fun: Jump, stretch, balance, and bend as you find ways to exercise through play. Activities will be outside the museum and free to all. The museum will be closed for installation of the Ropes Challenge Course. In case of rain, activities will be in the Program Room with an entrance off of Wabash Street.

June 1. 4:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. First Friday: Healthy Bodies at VCPL. All ages: Explore how to keep your body healthy and learn how your body works through hands-on activities and models. Play with a white and red blood cell sensory bin, make puzzles, enjoy healthy snacks and get some fake snot to take home.

June 1. 5:00 p.m. Get Fit Downtown – 1 Mile Foam Run/Walk. Come clock your fastest mile yet or just come for a fun mile in the foam! After your 1st mile timed lap is complete you can continue to complete as many un-timed fun laps as you would like! $15 kids 10 and under, $20 11 years and older.

June 2. 10:00 a.m. Mother Goose on the Loose at VCPL. Ages 0-5: Join Mother Goose for an interactive storytime with books, songs, rhymes and musical instruments.  You and your child will play together and develop early literacy skills.

June 2. 10:00 Wabash Valley Coder Dojo at VCPL. Ages 7-17: Learn to code, build a website, create an app or a game and explore technology in an informal, creative and social environment. Registration Required.

June 2. 1:00 p.m. Rock & Roll Instrument Petting Zoo at VCPL. Ages 5-11: Try out dozens of instruments, including percussion, brass, woodwinds and strings.  Instructors will be on hand to teach how to properly hold and play each instrument.  Instruments provided by the Wabash Valley Musicians Hall of Fame.

June 4. 6:00 p.m. Why Not Home? by Wabash Valley Midwives. Please join us for a free screening of the documentary film, Why Not Home? followed by a question and answer panel discussion featuring midwives, nurses, an OBGYN and a public health professional.  Discussion immediately following.

June 4. 6:30-8:30 p.m. Playthings – A Virtual Music Vacation with Accushot Virtual World at West Branch VCPL. Ages 6 & Up: Explore a virtual reality musical playground that is set on a tropical island where you hit bouncy, musical foods with drumsticks.

June 7. Entomology Workshop. Join us in an insect collecting trip! Tabby will be leading an entomology workshop that focuses on collection and will touch on pinning techniques. The group will be meeting at Deming Park at from 1-3pm. They will go on a hunt for insects, using best practices throughout the park. Later that evening at 10pm through 11pm, Tabby will be set up with a black light, for those who want to see black light collecting techniques. Parents are encouraged to come if youth want to join in on black light trapping! Please bring your own collecting equipment if you have it. June 7. 4:00 p.m. Summer Reading Kick-Off Party! in Clinton, IN. Come to the community Kick-Off party for Summer Reading on June 7th from 4-7pm! Free family event with food, games, music, and more! Music from the JLG Crew and CHS Daze! Outside the library.

June 8. Clay City Pottery Festival. Arts and crafts festival.

June 8. An enchanted evening of dinner, music, and folk dancing with the Linda Luebke Strings Festival.

June 9. 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Community Appreciation Day at Vigo County YMCA. Come one come all to this FREE party at the YMCA! The Y will be hosting an outdoor field day featuring FREE brunch provided by IHOP restaurant. Activities will include: -Badminton/volleyball-yard games such as cornhole boards, safe lawn darts, bocce ball, ladder toss, and more!-children’s activities: tricycles outside, sidewalk chalk, a DIY craft station(s), sensory boxes, and water games for kids!-Take a snapshot at the Y photo booth-Satellite radio to play on a speaker.

June 9. 10:00 a.m. Pre-K in the Park at Herz Rose Park. Families with 3 and 4 year olds, come play and interact with the High Quality Preschool Programs in Vigo County. June 11. 10:00 a.m. Rockin’ Family Fitness! at VCPL All ages: Get ready for some Rockin’ Family Fitness.  Health and fitness should be a priority– but when can you find the time?  Bring your children, infants through school-age, to be your workout buddy and show them how staying active and healthy can be fun for all ages.  Children who are able can exercise alongside you or you can wear or hold your infant to add some extra resistance to your workout.  The fitness portion will last 30 minutes. June 11. Rex player meet and greet in downtown Terre Haute. Rex players will be available for autographs, Slugger (mascot) will be on hand for pictures, and there will be a bounce house and activities for fans!

Ages 10-12: Learn food safety, kitchen safety and kid-friendly recipes for appetizers, snacks, main dishes and beverages.  Each child who registers will receive a cookbook and a small kitchen gadget to take home. Registration required.

June 12. 6:00 p.m.  Color Me Green Run/Walk. Join Vigo County 4-H for a fun one-mile run/walk with green color powder! Anyone can participate, you do not need to be a 4-H member. While supplies last, each participant will receive a white Color Me Green t-shirt and 4-H sunglasses. The course will be within the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds. Please meet at the Rabbit Barn to pick up supplies and to sign a waiver.

June 13. 10:00a.m.-2:00 p.m.  Touch A Truck in Bloomington. Get up close and personal with fire trucks, ambulances, buses, bucket trucks, and more at the 18th annual Touch a Truck. June 13, 20, 27. 10:00 a.m. Preschool Storytime. Ages 3-5: Bring your preschooler to the Library for interactive stories, songs, dancing, crafts and play from 10:00am to 10:30am.  There will be 30 minutes of free play offered from 10:30am to 11:00am.

June 13. 6:00 p.m. Watch This! Black Panther at Main Branch VCPL. T’Challa returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to assume the throne as king. When enemies conspire to destroy Wakanda, T’Challa must find a way to save his people.

June 13. 6:30 p.m. Gardening Workshop. The Master Gardeners are hosting a gardening project workshop June 13th in the 4-H meeting room at the fairgrounds from 6-7:30pm. This workshop will focus on the Level A Project (Grades 3 and 4) for gardening, but all ages are welcome! This event is free for 4-H members.

June 13, 20, 27. 4:00-5:00 p.m. Maker Camp at Main Branch VCPL. Ages 11-15: Make, create, craft, hack and tinker this summer with Maker Camp at the Vigo County Public Library.  Maker Camp is a dynamic global community developed by Google and Make Magazine to encourage your middle schooler to become a creative problem solver, visionary thinker and courageous doer.  Pick and choose which sessions you’d like to attend– or attend them all.  Please register for each session separately. June 14. 10:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m.  Strawberry Fest at First Congressional Church. 6th and Ohio. It’s a Berry good time!

June 14, 21, 28. 10:30 a.m. What’s that sound? at West Branch VCPL. Summer Lego Duplo classes rock at your library! Songs, games and creative play are part of each Lego Duplo class and allow for positive social interaction between children.  Enjoy Mommy & Me / Daddy & Me BRICKS 4 KIDZ® classes this summer which focus on sounds.

June 14, 21, 28. 6:00 p.m. Books Before Bedtime at VCPL.  Ages 0-5: Wear your pajamas for stories, songs, and crafts before bedtime! Each week will focus on a different musical genre. Story time will last approximately 30 minutes, followed by 30 minutes of craft and play time.

June 14. 5:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m. VCPL Family Fun night at Honey Creek Mall. Sign up for our 2018 Summer Reading Program at the Honey Creek Mall! We’ll have activities, art projects, and music-making opportunities for the entire family.

June 15, 22, 29. 10:30 a.m. Ready to Read Storytime at West Branch VCPL. Ages 0-5. Children will sing along to music, move their bodies with egg shakers and scarves, hear stories, and participate in crafts or playtime. Parents and caregivers are invited to participate with their children during this fun and interactive storytime.

June 16. Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day with Griffin Bike Park.

June 16. Indy Mommy Market. Join us for the 4th Indy Mommy Market, where you will find so much amazing handmade and curated kids and baby items from 55+ LOCAL shops. It will be held in the Llama Barn at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds in Noblesville, IN. The Market will be one-day only: June 16 from 9am-2pm. Bring your #momsquad and enjoy a day of local shopping, food trucks, and live music. Admission is $5 (cash only) at the door. The first 150 shoppers will receive a shopping bag full of great deals from participating vendors. Parking is FREE. Children under 12 are free.

June 16. 8:00 a.m. 2018 Diversity Walk. The Terre Haute Tomorrow Diversity/Socio-economic Committee invites all members of the community to join us as we celebrate diversity and inclusion during the 3rd annual Diversity Walk.The Diversity Walk is a FREE event in downtown Terre Haute that is designed to unify our community and spread messages of respect, acceptance, and inclusion.

June 16. 10:00 a.m. Debs in Our Voices: A Community Reading. The Eugene V. Debs Foundation is pleased to invite you to the Centennial Commemoration of Debs’ historic speech delivered in Canton, Ohio on June 16th, 1918. Debs’ anti-war position expressed in this speech ultimately resulted in his sedition conviction and ten-year prison sentence. June 16. Terre Haute Community Band concert in the park. This year, the Terre Haute Community Band children’s concert will feature the music of the Beatles & Disney. This FREE event (held at Fairbanks Park) includes refreshments, a Silly Safaris animal show, books, and a kid-friendly concert!

June 1-Aug 10. Marshall Movies/Street Dances Summer Series 2018. The City of Marshall is excited to begin construction on our new pool this spring! For the first time since 1955, the City of Marshall will not have their public pool open. The pool has been a staple in the community for our youth and families the last 63 years. The City plans to have a few outdoor movies on the Courthouse lawn and several street dances throughout the summer. While it won’t replace the pool, the City hopes these activities will help create family fun for the summer.

June 18. 10:00 a.m. Sewing Workshop by Purdue Extension – Vigo County 4-H. We will be hosting a sewing project workshop June 18th at ISU’s campus from 10 am-noon. This workshop will focus on the sewing projects, both wearables and non-wearables. All ages are welcome! This event is free for 4-H members.

June 19. 1:00 p.m. Art Start at Swope Art Museum. Young artists are invited to experience this free art program that uses books and corresponding art projects to encourage creativity. For children ages 3 – 5 accompanied by an adult. Explore the Museum together with an interactive gallery guide to build on the Art Start experience.

June 19. 4:00 p.m. Rock in the Library Karaoke at VCPL West Branch. Ages 5 & Up: Are you ready to rock out at the Library? From old favorites to new hits, show off your vocal talents on the karaoke machine.

June 20. Free performance of Guess What I Did Last Summer? at Woodrow Wilson Middle School as part of the VCSC Performing Arts Workshop.

June 20. 9:00 a.m. STEM Workshop. Come and learn what STEM has to offer! Vigo County 4-H is holding a STEM Workshop on June 20th from 9-11 am. Youth will gets hands on learning activities such as coding, building, and robotics. Everyone is welcome, but space is limited!

June 20. Kids Cooking Class at Deming Park. Ages 4-8: 9:30 am-11:00 am. Ages 9-12: 1:00 pm-2:30 p.m. Cost: $5 per class. Registration can be done over the phone at 812-232-0147, online at http://bit.ly/2FE3bqg or at the Torner Center during business hours.
