Thursday, June 27. No Strings Attached performed by VCSC Performing Arts Workshop at Terre Haute South High School. An adaptation of Carlo Collodi’s Pinocchio. Everyone’s favorite knothead gets an extreme makeover in this hip and hilarious musical adaptation of the classic tale of a talking puppet who gets into all kinds of trouble before learning what it truly means to be human. FREE!

Thursday, June 27. Libratory at the WEST branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Age 6–11: Do you have a budding artist or a mad scientist whose creativity is waiting to be unleashed? Stop by the Libratory and get ready to experiment! Libratory takes ideas from some of your children’s favorite stories and turns them into concepts that they can experience hands-on. Your child might draw their own ideas for a wind turbine, help create and implement a plan to harvest rainwater for West Branch Library’s garden, or make an Archimedes Screw! Each session is a chance to engineer, create, and play. Some projects may take place over multiple sessions.

Friday, June 28 and Saturday, June 29. Wabash Valley Lemonade Day. The goal is not just to have stands all around the Wabash Valley on lemonade day, it is to teach youth valuable skills and inspire them to think about what they would want to create and run the other 364 days in the year. There is no age limit to entrepreneurship!

Saturday, June 29. Bluey Blast at the SULLIVAN Public Library. Dancing, crafts, snacks, and Bluey’s favorite games.

Saturday, June 29. Red, White, and Breakfast with Bluey Skate at The Wigwam.

Saturday, June 29. National Road Heritage Trail Bike Ride in Vigo County. The group will depart at 9:00 AM from the north end of Fairbanks Park, then ride 1.5 miles west across the Wabash River and on the new scenic causeway trail to the Dewey Point Trailhead of Wabashiki Trail in West Terre Haute. From there, we’ll ride 4 miles round trip on the packed stone trail along the border of the Wabashiki Fish & Wildlife preserve. Returning to Terre Haute, we’ll then ride a 18-mile round trip on ISU’s trails & the NRHT, including stops at 2 Historic National Road Interpretive Panels, 1 of which is at a historic filling station on the Rose-Hulman campus, and a stop for lunch at the trailside Treehouse Eatery & Drinkery near the end of the ride. Total ride length will be 25 miles.

Saturday, June 29. Life Size Candy Land at the Vigo County Public Library. All Ages: Travel to the Kingdom of Sweet Adventures in a life-sized game of Candy Land! You and your family will encounter all sorts of delicious surprises as you search the Chocolate Swamp, visit Candy Cane Lane, and explore the Cupcake Commons.

Saturday, June 29. “I’m a Dancin’ Machine” with the Terre Haute Community Band. Ages 16 & Up: Whether you want to build your own zoo, trade resources to grow your settlement, or create beautiful mosaics, Tabletopia has the perfect game for you! Every month at Tabletopia, Terre Haute Tabletop will introduce new players to contemporary board games and provide skilled players with a regular gaming session, new challenges, and a connection to Terre Haute’s board game community.

Each session of Summer Art Corner will introduce your child to a new process for creating art and develop their creativity as they explore different materials—without worrying about the end results. In this session, your child will use watercolor and string to make a colorful abstract painting.

Along the way, the audience helps the performer conduct exciting science experiments that bring this story to life! Experiment with chemical reactions, air pressure, physical explosions, and more! Don’t miss this exciting and interactive STEM learning adventure!

Tuesday, June 4. “Ice” Skating Party at the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 2–10: Take a spin around the rink with your little ones at the “Ice” Skating Party—no snow or ice required! Instead, your child will glide across the floor to music on plastic plates.

Tuesday, June 4. Teen Card Club at the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 12–18: Put your cards on the table at Teen Card Club! Learn the rules of classic card games—including Rummy, Crazy Eights, or Nertz—or try out popular contemporary card games like Exploding Kittens, Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza, or Happy Salmon in a fun, relaxed environment.

Tuesday, June 4-6. Stranger Things Escape Room at the WEST branch of the Vigo County Public Library.  Ages 12 & Up: Can you escape the Upside Down? Grab your flashlight, pick up your walkie-talkie, and find out in the Stranger Things Escape Room. Search for clues with your teammates to unlock the code to the gate between an alternate dimension and your own.

Wednesday, June 5. Choose Your Own Adventure Club: Space and Beyond at the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 7–12: In R.A. Montgomery’s Space and Beyond, your parents are crew members on an intergalactic spaceship—and from two different galaxies. Even though you’ve grown up on the ship and have never seen either of your parents’ home planets, your journey begins when you choose whether to be a citizen of the planet Kenda or the planet Croyd. Gear up for a new adventure every week with the Choose Your Own Adventure Book Club—where you will vote to decide the next course of action in twisting plots, fantastic challenges, and dangerous deeds. You’ll receive a passport to track your travels and collect a new sticker at each session. Attend all nine sessions in June and July to complete your passport and receive your own Choose Your Own Adventure package—including a new book, stickers, and more! Turn your passport in at the end of the series to receive your package.

Wednesday, June 5. LEGO Lab at the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 6–11: Challenge your child’s construction skills, teamwork abilities, and creativity at Lego® Lab! Your child can attempt the monthly challenge or build their own designs. At the end of the evening, spend a few minutes touring everyone’s designs and learn how others solved problems in their own builds. Parents and caregivers with children under 9 should assist with building.

Thursday, June 6. Featured Event from the Vigo County Public Library! Campfire Stories & S’mores. 

Ages 5–10: Curl up around a cozy “campfire” and enjoy a s’mores-inspired snack while you listen to stories, make a bird feeder, and create leaf-rubbing art with crayons at Campfire Stories & S’mores.

Thursday, June 6 and 20. Cooking class for kids at Deming Park. $10 per child. Pre-registration required. Ages 5-8 and 9-12.

Thursday, June 6. MagiKids at the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 8–18: Start your child on the journey to becoming a powerful wizard with Magic: The Gathering, a turn-based trading card game, and MagiKids! Developed to introduce young players to the concepts of Magic: The Gathering, MagiKids encourages participants to sort and build their own custom deck of spells, creatures, and artifacts before they challenge other players to a game that relies on skill just as much as luck and that encourages them to use critical thinking skills to overcome the pitfalls of random chance.

Friday, June 7. Art Adventures for Teens at the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 12–18: Are you looking for inspiration or eager to try a new technique? At Art Adventure for Teens, you’ll be able to experiment with a variety of artistic mediums, including metal stamping, beading, painting, and fusible beads.

The 41|40 Arts & Cultural District is excited to host the 3rd Annual Sixth Street Arts Festival in Downtown Terre Haute on Saturday, June 8, 2024, 10am-4pm, on 6th Street between Cherry and Wabash in front of the Arts Illiana Gallery at 23 N 6th St. Admission is free and open to the public! A public open house will be held on Saturday, June 15, from 10 AM until Noon, during which the vintage campers will be open for viewing by the public.

Saturday, June 15. Read to Rover at the Vigo County Public Library. Share a book with a furry friend from Love on a Leash. These good-natured therapy dogs are eager to listen to your child practice reading aloud in a stress-free setting, complete with cuddles, belly rubs, and ear scratches!

Bring your pups and enjoy the day with us as we fundraise for CODA’s programs and services that assist survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Children 12 and under get in free!

Monday, June 17. Summer Art Corner: Black Glue and Watercolors at the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 6–11: Introduce your child to new ways to make art at Summer Art Corner! Each session will focus on a new process and different materials meant to encourage open-ended creativity. At this session, your child will learn how to make black glue, make their own outlined drawing, and use watercolor to fill the outline in for a bold, bright final picture.

Monday, June 17. Cardboard Creations at the Vigo County Public Library. Prepare for an adventure with Makedo®, an easy-to-use construction tool kit! Your child can use the Makedo® tools to fold, cut, and even screw pieces of cardboard together to create jetpacks, planes, armor, a castle, and more!

Monday, June 17. SummerAde at the WEST branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 12 & Up: It’s time for a new twist on a summer favorite—lemonade! Create custom flavors to enjoy on hot summer days, serve at a family picnic, or share with a friend. Please wear weather-appropriate clothing and sunscreen. Lemonade will be prepared in the kitchen and enjoyed outside if the weather permits.

Tuesday, June 18. Building Buddies at the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 2-5: Help your little one build more than towers at Building Buddies! Listen to a story together then build with blocks to improve your child’s motor skills, teach them to solve problems, and develop their social skills by playing with others. Lego® Duplos, Giant Lincoln Logs®, and Giant Legos® will be available.

Featured Event! Tuesday, June 18. Black Quilters: Hard Topics, Soft Blows with the Vigo County Public Library. Though often dismissed as “women’s work” and regulated to the realm of handicrafts, the art of quilting holds a prominent place in many cultures. It brings together communities and allows creators to chronicle their struggles and triumphs. Join Dr. Tony Jean Dickerson as she discusses the artistry of African American quilters and the stories they tell in their works. Presented by the Indiana Humanities Advancing Racial Equity Speakers Bureau.

Tuesday, June 18. Choose Your Own Adventure Book Club: The Magic of the Unicorn with the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 7–12: Think quickly and be brave as you venture into a fantasy world in Deborah Lerme Goodman’s The Magic of the Unicorn! Your small village’s water supply is badly polluted, and no one knows how to purify it. It’s up to you to save the village with the help of your magical talisman. Tuesday, June 18. DIY Faux Stained Glass for Teens at the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 12-18: Make a colorful piece of art using paint, glue, and a picture frame at DIY Faux Stained Glass for Teens!

Wednesday, June 19. Juneteenth: Historic African-American Places in Terre Haute. Join the Vigo County History Center for the second annual Juneteenth Celebration. View displays of historic black businesses, hear from local trailblazers and their families. Featuring Local Historian Dr. Crystal Reynolds, Community Activist Peggy Joyner, VCHC Board Member Dee Reed and more special guests. Including children’s activities and giveaways (while supplies last). Wednesday, June 19, the History Center will be open 10am to 5pm, with the program beginning at 1pm.

Thursday, June 20. Fantasy Mapmaking with the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 12 & Up: Build your own world from the ground up at Fantasy Mapmaking. Use paper and rice to create your land masses and coastlines, then add towns, cities, forests, and more to make a custom map you can use for your next gaming session, for writing inspiration, or for a piece of wall art. After you’ve made your map, learn how to scan it into InkScape, a free vector art program, and turn it into a file that can be engraved on faux leather using the Haute Create laser cutter.

Friday, June 21. Throw Throw Burrito: Outdoor Edition at the Vigo County Public Library. All Ages: Collect matching cards and dodge flying burritos in an extreme competition to earn points—not burrito bruises. Throw Throw Burrito: Outdoor Edition brings the popular dodgeball card game to a new scale with giant, inflatable burritos and oversized cards. Will you be the ultimate burrito champion?

Friday, June 21. Art Adventures at the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 3–5: It’s time to get messy with Art Adventures! From painting with toy car wheels to making marbled paper with shaving cream, your child can experiment with unlimited ways to make art while improving their motor skills, developing their creativity, and increasing their confidence.

Friday, June 21. Pride Button Making at the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 12-18: Show off your individuality, your creativity, and your pride with a custom button designed by you! At Pride Button Making, you will use markers, paint, colored pencils, and more to design your own button graphic, use a button maker to assemble your button, and learn more about the importance of pinback buttons in the LGBTQIA+ community.

If your child has questions like these, then Curious Kids has answers! At each session, your child can get hands-on with experiments that will help them understand the science behind everyday phenomena, introduce them to new technology, or encourage them to explore the connections between science, math, art, and music in fun, new ways.

Monday, June 24. LEGO Stop Motion Animation at the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 8–12: Encourage your child to turn their ideas into reality, experiment with creative problem-solving, and work cooperatively with others. Teams of two will build models, create background scenery, move the Lego® mini-figs between scenes, and add voiceovers to produce their own short film using a Lego® Stop Motion Animation kit.

All Ages: Gear up for a prehistoric adventure with a zany paleontologist at Freddy Fossil’s Dino Show. Freddy Fossil, dinosaur hunter extraordinaire, will take your child on a prehistoric journey, introduce them to his dinosaur friends, and teach them how fossils can tell scientists what a dinosaur looked like, what they ate, and how they lived.
