65 Things to Do in February in Terre Haute!

If you’re looking for things to do in Terre Haute in February, you’ve come to the right place! We have a little less than two months of winter. Why not make the most of the cold, gray days by getting out of the house and having some fun!? We want to help you to love where you live (even in the coldest months of the year), so we fill our community calendars with as much fun as we can find!

These calendars wouldn’t be possible without the support of our community sponsors. In February, we’re featuring the ISU Community School of the Arts! This month they’re inviting you to their African Drum Samplers, their learn Mandarin Chinese classes, and their auditions for Aladdin, Jr on February 24 and 25! This production will be fun for ages 7 to 17, and all children who audition will be cast!

Daily. Recording Family Stories at the Haute Studio of the main branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Do you have family stories that you want to record for future generations? Come join us in VCPL’s new audio booth to record your family tales during regular business hours. A VCPL staff member will provide interview questions for participants to assist in the recording. These oral history recordings will then go into VCPL’s archives for community use in the future. To reserve a time, call 812.232.1113 ext 4221.

Mondays. 4:15-5:15 p.m. Guitar Academy Hosted by Community School of the Arts at Indiana State. It is a great option for those who are interested in learning how to play guitar with other individuals. Students will be enrolled in private lessons of 30-, 45-, or 60-minutes/lesson, as well as group jam sessions. February 3 – April 27. Ages: 5-Adult. Starts at $275.

Mondays. 10:00 a.m. Tiny Tot Time at Vigo County Public Library Main Branch. Ages 0-24 months: Listen to books, rhymes, songs, and finger-plays while letting your baby experience a group setting for the first time. After thirty minutes of storytime, babies and parents can engage in free play.

Mondays. 7:00 p.m. Pokemon Monday! Join Full Moon Games in our weekly fully Sanctioned Pokemon Tournament every single Monday! Entry Fee: $5

Tuesdays. 9:30 a.m. Story Time Tuesday at Chick-fil-A Terre Haute. All kids 12 and under who participate can enjoy Chick-n-Minis on us!

Tuesdays. 1:00 p.m. Art Start at the Swope. Young artists are invited to experience this free art program. We will be reading a book and doing a related art project. For children ages three to five accompanied by an adult. Located at the Swope Education Center, enter from Ohio Street.

Wednesdays. 10:00 a.m. Wiggle Worm Wednesdays at Vigo County Public Library Main Branch. Ages 2-5: Interact with engaging books, songs, and body movements while building early literacy skills. Thirty minutes of free play will follow storytime.

Wednesdays. 11:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Manna from Seven Laundry Assistance. Meet us at Suds on Third Laundry on Wednesdays from for assistance with laundry services.

Thursdays. 12:30 p.m. Bingo Bunch at Vigo County Public Library West Branch. Adults: Enjoy refreshments as you play traditional and non-traditional Bingo every week. Prizes will be offered to the first to call out, “Bingo!” All levels of experience welcome. Cards and number markers will be provided.

Thursdays. 5:30 p.m. Books Before Bedtime at Vigo County Public Library Main Branch. Ages 0-5: Come have fun and interact during storytime by building early literacy skills through reading, writing, singing, talking, and playing.

Thursdays in Clay County and Fridays in Vigo County YMCA. Dodgeball$10 for 5 nights of fun at the Y ($3 for a day pass to play). Grades 3-5: 6:00-7:00 p.m. Middle School: 7:00-8:00 p.m. January 2nd—March 5th

Fridays. 10:30 a.m. Ready to Read Storytime at  Vigo County Public Library West Branch. Ages 0-5: Listen to stories, sing and dance along to music, and get creative with crafts or playtime. Parents and caregivers can participate with their children during storytime.

Saturdays. 11:00 a.m. Rocky Hollow Ice Hike at Turkey Run and Shades state parks. Guided hike with a Park Naturalist to the Punch Bowl and back along trail 3.  Stunning icicles, frozen waterfalls, and winter silence will be found.

Saturdays. (Started Jan 18). 3:00-4:30 p.m. Valley Volley Tot at Honey Creek Middle School ages 4-7. Are you looking for an activity to keep your little ones active this winter? Activities are designed to increase foot speed, improve agility, develop hand-eye coordination, help with social development, and to have FUN! $55 for 7 sessions.

Saturdays. 10:00 p.m. Family Yoga at The Maple Center for Integrative Health. Parents and their children are invited to join this special yoga series designed for yogis of all ages. Parent participation is required. Cost $5 per person per class or $20 per family per class.

Sundays in February. Yoga in the Gallery. Parents and their children are invited to join this special yoga series designed for yogis of all ages at the Swope Art Museum. Instructor Ellie Templeton will be leading parents and kids through basic yoga poses, breathing techniques, simple meditation and relaxation. Games, music, props and partner poses will make the class engaging for all students.  No prior yoga experience needed. Mats and other equipment will be provided. Parent participation is required. Parents may attend with multiple children.  A 1:3 parent child ratio or less is recommended. Cost $5 per person per class or $20 per family per class, scholarships available

Sundays. 5:30 p.m. Free Community Dinner. Hosted by Supper at the Center. Sponsored by Highland-Church at the West Vigo Community Center. Everyone is welcome!

Sundays. 2:00-4:00. Learn Mandarin Chinese! at Community School of the Arts. Our instructors are Asian natives currently residing in the Wabash Valley who wish to utilize their time and talents sharing their language and cultural experiences with others. $125. February 2 – May 2. Ages: 5-Adult.

Jan 30-Feb 2. Rose Drama Club: Almost, Maine. Tickets start at $10. Playful and surreal experiences are commonplace in the world of Almost, Maine, where on one deeply cold and magical Midwinter Night, the citizens of Almost — not organized enough for a town, too populated for a wilderness — experience the life-altering power of the human heart.

Jan 31-Feb 9. The Drowsy Chaperone at Community Theatre of Terre Haute. Musical by Lisa Lambert & Greg Morrison; Book by Bob Martin & Don McKellar; Directed by Karen Crispin. It’s a parody of American musical comedy of the 1920s. $21 Adults, $15 Students.

Sat Feb 1. 9:00 a.m. The Farmers Market at The Meadows. You’ll be able to shop for fresh, local produce, farm fresh meats and eggs, local honey, dried herbs and seasoning blends, homemade jams and jellies and more!

Sat Feb 1. 10:00 a.m. Buffalo Soldiers Winter Ride Presented by Sundance Skills Clinic at Griffin Park. In Celebration of Black History Month. Griffin Bike Park will be honoring our fallen soldiers by hosting a fundraising winter ride. $10 per rider, Kids under 18 free.

Sat Feb 1. 6:00 p.m. Mother Son Night at Terre Haute Children’s Museum. Moms, stepmoms, grandmas, aunts and special friends are encouraged to bring their favorite boys to this evening of excitement and intrigue. $40/couple, additional child $10.

Sun Feb 2. 12:30-2:00 p.m. Open House at St. Patrick School. Teachers, students, parents, and administrators will be on hand to answer questions and give tours of the building. Please join us!

Sun Feb 2. 2:00 p.m. Learn-to-Sew:: Kid’s Class at Charm School.
Ages: 8-14. We have a few machines available for use so you can become familiar and see if sewing is something for you. Cost: $35 (will include fabric for a small project!)

Mon Feb 3 and Tues Feb 4. Auditions for Murder Room, a comedy at Community Theatre of Terre Haute. Casting 2 men & 3 women for this fabulous mystery farce by Jack Sharkey and directed by Sara Solooki. Will be performed March 27-29 and April 3-5.

Mon Feb 3. 6:30 p.m. Books & Brews: The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society. Hosted by Vigo County Public Library. Ages 21 & Up: Join us at The Terre Haute Brewing Company as we discuss the book. Food and drink will be available to purchase from the restaurant.

Tues Feb 4. 10 am. Photoshop Fabulous at the Vigo County Public Library. Darkness, blurriness, and redness all impact picture quality. Remove blemishes, whiten teeth, and make colors pop. Previous experience with Adobe Photoshop Elements is not required. Bring your own photos or use provided photos for practice.

Wed. Feb 5. WIC Baby Weigh-ins. Make sure your baby is on track with the help of WIC, even if you are not currently enrolled.

Wed Feb 5. 6:00 pm. Making Family Memories with iMovie. Let the Vigo County Public Library help you preserve precious family memories with iMovie and create a social media-worthy movie to share with your friends using your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. This class will be held online for everyone to learn from the comforts of their own homes.

Wed Feb 5. 7:30 p.m. The Russian National Ballet: Swan Lake at Hatfield Hall. This masterpiece ballet is presented in two acts and follows the original storyline. Swan Lake crosses the world of magic and mystical creatures with that of the real world. Tickets start at $32.

Fri Feb 7 and Sat Feb 8. 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Learning Lab: Come Fly with Me at Terre Haute Children’s Museum. We will explore Bernoulli’s principle in our Fiddling with Physics exhibit. Then join the construction team as we design airplanes out of different types of materials and see if you can create an airplane to go the farthest. Member Pricing: $13 per session.

Sat Feb 8. 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Bee School at Terre Haute Regional Airport. Wabash Valley Bee Club and Clay Beekeepers Club are partnering to provide a “bee school.” The event will provide beginning beekeepers basic beekeeping techniques and include hive management and pest control. Cost is $20 per person and $30 per couple and $10 for children under 18.

Sat Feb 8. 9:30 a.m. Baby Explorer: I Love Shapes at Terre Haute Children’s Museum. Our babies’ world is made up of all sorts of shapes that do different things. Grab a heart, roll a sphere, and build with cubes.
Baby Explorer is for ages 0-2 and their caregiver. Registration is required. Included with admission.

Sun Feb 9. 1:30-3:30 p.m. Sundays at the Woods: Tea Tasting. Join Sister Jan Craven and Sister Paula Damiano for a relaxing Sunday afternoon. We will try several types of teas and learn the art of brewing, the differences in tea cultures and new trends in tea.Come and relax with a nice cup of tea!
Registration fee $10 includes tea and crumpets.

Mon Feb 10. 6:30 p.m. THE POLLINATORS at AMC theaters. Documentary – Environmental.  One out of every three bites we eat, the growth of almost all our fruits, nuts and vegetables, would be impossible without pollination from bees. Tues Feb 11. 9:30 a.m. Tot Time: Colorful Hearts at Terre Haute Children’s Museum. Love is in the air as well as so many colors. We will be mixing up a a color storm in Tot Time this week. Don’t worry we’ve got aprons to keep the littles clean. Tot Time is an interactive, educational program for children ages 2-5 and their caregiver. Registration is required. Included with admission.

Tues Feb 11 and Feb 18. 6:30 p.m. African Drumming Samplers. Are you looking to be inspired by creativity and community connection? You can experience all of this and more through a non-intimidating, but individually paced community education course. Free.

Wed Feb 12. 6 pm. Watch This! Main Library. Fighting with My Family. Fighting with My Family portrays the careers and lives of a former wrestler and his family as they dream of becoming a part of WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment).

Sat Feb 15. 8:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. 2020 Indiana State University Jazz Festival. We’re excited to have legendary saxophonist and composer Larry McKenna join us for the 2020 ISU Jazz Festival! There will be plenty of middle school and high school bands from all over the state of Indiana and parts of Illinois performing throughout the day. All clinics and shows are free and open to the public!

Sat Feb 15. 9:00 a.m. Heart Throb 5k. Bring yourself or your sweetheart for the annual fun Valentine’s Day run benefiting the Vigo County YMCA’s Annual Campaign and Financial Assistance program. This 5k race will begin and end at the Vigo County YMCA! $25 per individual until 2/14/2020. $30 in person registration.

Sat Feb 15. 6:00 p.m. CST. 2nd Annual Moms With Boys Night Out in Paris, IL. Special evening with Dancing, games, and activities for moms to enjoy with their boys. Wed Feb 19. 5:00 pm. Family Game Night at the Main Library (VCPL). Virtual reality tournament. Ages 12 & Up: Grab your VR bow and arrows and fight the enemy onslaught as you try to get the high score. Participants must be ages 12 and up to use the HTC ViveT headset. They will also have a “Keeping it Classic” portion of the evening with games for all ages and experience levels available throughout the main library and west branch throughout the evening.

Thurs Feb 20. Traveling with Kids (and Enjoying It!). Vigo County Public Library. 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Rachael Brown, local blogger of Haute Happenings and Nothing If Not Intentional, will discuss the value of sharing the joy of traveling and seeing the world with your children. She will also give tips on how to plan and make it enjoyable instead of a chore.

Thurs Feb 20. 7:00 p.m.  Vigo County 4-H Goat Club Meeting. 

Fri Feb 21 and Sat Feb 22. 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Learning Lab: Everything LEGO at Terre Haute Children’s Museum. LEGOs become the building blocks as you design tall towers able to withstand the rocking and rolling of an earthquake (a shake test) and working windmills, how fast can your windmill lift a load? Fri Feb 21. 7:30 p.m. Engineers In Concert at Hatfield Hall. The entire Rose-Hulman community comes together to celebrate art, music, and dance in this elite showcase of campus talent.This event is FREE and open to the public.

Sat Feb 22. 9:00 a.m. Indiana State University Polar Plunge. Special Olympics Indiana’s signature fundraiser, the Polar Plunge is a series of exhilarating events held each winter where individuals and teams brave the elements by taking an icy dip to demonstrate their commitment to the cause!

Sat Feb 22. Free family photo sessions at the main library (VCPL)! Capture your family with a free ten minute photo session with professional photographer Mic Orman, owner of Mic’s Pics Photo and Digital Solutions. Worried you don’t have anything to wear? We have jackets, accessories, and blazers for you to borrow for your session. This program can accommodate 18 families. Registration will be open from Saturday, January 18 to Friday, February 21.

Sat Feb 22. 9:30 a.m. Pre-School Clay by Deming Park Pottery. Cost: $7 per child. Ages: 2-4. Pre-Registration Required.

Sat Feb 22. 1:00-5:00  p.m. Baking Sourdough Breads at St. Mary of the Woods. Learn bread making basics, tips and tricks for creating and maintaining starters, and ideas for how to incorporate sourdough into a variety of other baked goods. Registration fee is $45 and samples, instructions and starters to take home are included.

Sat Feb 22. 4:00 p.m. Elementary Clay by Deming Park Pottery. Cost: $15 per child. Ages: 5-10. Pre-Registration Required.

Sat Feb 22. 5:30 p.m. 12th Annual Swope Mardi Gras.  This year, presented by Indiana American Water, promises to be even more exciting than last year. We have 3 ways to transport yourself to Bourbon Street without ever leaving the Haute. Tickets start at $40.

Sun Feb 23. 7:30 p.m. Freedom To Laugh in Terre Haute at Terre Haute Brewing Co. Freedom to Laugh Comedy Tour is a pro-America, pro-small government, and pro-family values. It’s not dirty or crude. Just flat-out funny!  Show is all ages, but recommended as 17 and over. Tickets start at $25.


Mon Feb 24 and Tues Feb 25. Auditions for Aladdin Jr! at Community School of the Arts at Indiana State. With plenty of parts to go around, including featured roles as well as ensemble parts,  Aladdin JR. is ideal for productions involving different grade levels. All children will be accepted into the program and will have a part. Ages: 7-17. Dates: March 2 – May 3
Times: Mon, Tues, Wed from 6:00pm-7:45pm. $165.

Tues Feb 25. 9:30 a.m. Tot Time: Wiggle, Wobble, Whoa! at Terre Haute Children’s Museum. Balance bodies and beanie babies using the Leap Into Science kit as we find stability in lots of ways. Tot Time is an interactive, educational program for children ages 2-5 and their caregiver. Registration is required. Included with admission.

Wed Feb 26. 6:30 p.m. MCC Students – Comedy Night. Parents, Students 6th-12th Grade, and Leaders join us for a night of fun as we welcome ComedySportz from Indianapolis to fill our student center with laughter! No registration required (FREE) unless you have childcare needs. Childcare is free and open to ages birth-5th grade.

Thurs Feb 27. 6-8 pm. Black Film Festival at the Lifelong Learning Center fo the main library of the VCPL. Explore the way African American experiences, families and relationships are depicted in film. Watch five selected films in the comfort of your home with your friends and family then come to discuss the representations in the films with experts from the NAACP and the Charles E. Brown African American Cultural Center at Indiana State University. The five films to watch for discussion are: Crooklyn by Spike Lee (Rated PG-13, 115 minutes); Loving by Jeff Nichols (Rated PG-13, 123 minutes); Moonlight by Barry Jenkins (Rated R, 111 minutes); A Raisin in the Sun by Daniel Petrie (Not Rated, 128 minutes); and Us by Jordan Peele (Rated R, 116 minutes).

Fri Feb 28 and Sat Feb 29. Marsh Madness Sandhill Crane Festival-Linton, IN. Tickets $25. Events include a kick-off banquet, craft fair, live birds of prey on display, informational and educational presentations, bus tours, self-guided tours, kids activities, and much more.

Fri Feb 28. 4:30 p.m. Family Clay Hosted by Deming Park Pottery. Cost: $10 per project. All Ages Welcome. Pre-Registration Required.

Sat Feb 29. 9:00 a.m. -2:00 p.m. Parenting Through The Phases Workshop at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. This inspiring and guilt-free parenting workshop will help you make the most of the developmental phase your child or teen is in right now. Lunch and Childcare will be provided! Free will donations will be taken to help offset the cost of the event.
