When class begins we will be decorating our dog houses will markers, crayons, stickers and gem stones. Once the kids are done decorating we will have a station to make dog collars for their dogs and lastly photos will be taken with our pets. All class materials/pets and houses included in price. Saturday, February 22.In Their Footsteps: A Walking Tour Celebrating Black Authors hosted by the Vigo County Public Library. Take a tour through time with Dr. Crystal Reynolds, a local historian and expert on the achievements of people of color in Vigo County. In this Black History Month walking tour, Dr. Reynolds will be detailing the lives of Black authors who were born in or lived in Terre Haute, including Evangeline Harris, author of educational materials for African American children from the 1940s; Wiley High School graduate Dharathula “Dolly” Millender, a librarian and historian for Gary, Indiana with several published works; and Cynthia Shepard Perry, an ISU graduate and a former US ambassador who published her autobiography in 1998. The walking tour will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Discussion, refreshments, and hot drinks will be available after the tour until 3:00 p.m.

The ground may still be too cold to sow your seeds, but you can get an early start on growing sprouts with a milk jug greenhouse! Learn how to create drainage, which soil works best, and what seeds to plant for the best results.

Ages 21 & Up: Get dolled up in your favorite poodle skirt, tease your hair to the max, or grab your grooviest bell bottoms and take a trip through time at Retro Rewind! Spend an evening listening to the biggest hits of the past, challenging your friends to classic board games, taking selfies in retro rooms, and showing off your favorite decade’s fashion! Sunday, February 2. Cirque Kalabante at Rose Hulman Hatfield Hall. Afrique en Cirque is a show by Yamoussa Bangoura, inspired by daily life in Guinea. This performance shares the beauty, youth and artistry of African culture. A colorful show beyond its scenery, costumes and staging, it makes any theatre vibrate with energy and represents the strength, agility and life’s joys of young Africans. The audience will see acrobats execute gravity-defying moves and human pyramids, accompanied by the contemporary sounds of live Afro-Jazz, percussion, and kora.
Monday, February 3. Lego Lab at the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 6–11: Challenge your child’s construction skills, teamwork abilities, and creativity at Lego® Lab! Your child can attempt the monthly challenge or build their own designs. At the end of the evening, spend a few minutes touring everyone’s designs and learn how others solved problems in their own builds. Parents and caregivers with children under nine should assist with building.

Monday, February 3. Snowflake Pajama Party at the WEST branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 2–12: Spend a cozy evening at the West Branch Library at the Snowflake Pajama Party. Your child can wear their pajamas and bring a stuffed friend to listen to a story, create snowflake art, decorate snowflake cookies, and sip on hot chocolate. The program has a limited number of seats available. Please register each attendee individually. If this event has reached maximum capacity, non-registrants may be turned away on the day of the event.
Tuesday, February 4. Crafting Creativity at the 12 POINTS branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 1–5: Every month, Crafting Creativity will introduce your child to a new method of creative expression. Each process-based project will encourage them to develop fine motor skills, explore their artistic side, and build their confidence!
Wednesday, February 5. Cozy Crafts: Pipe Cleaner Flowers. Ages 12–17: Make a colorful bouquet for yourself or a friend with just a few twists at Cozy Crafts at the Vigo County Public Library.
Wednesday, February 5. Cook Smarter, Not Harder at the 12 Points garage at the 12 Points branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Build your confidence in the kitchen and expand your culinary creativity with Edie Hollis, owner of Black Cat Confections, at Cook Smarter, Not Harder. In this interactive workshop, you’ll learn essential techniques, from chopping to measuring to preparing and cooking your dish, with expert guidance every step of the way. Edie will demonstrate proper methods, explain why each technique works, and help you understand the process. You’ll receive personalized feedback as you cook and leave with a finished treat to enjoy, along with the skills to recreate the recipe at home.

Stop by the Libratory and get ready to experiment! Libratory takes ideas from some of your children’s favorite stories and turns them into concepts that they can experience hands-on. Your child might program a robot, help create and implement a plan to harvest rainwater for West Branch Library’s garden, or create an artistic masterpiece! Each session is a chance to engineer, create, and play. Some projects may take place over multiple sessions.
Thursday, February 6. MagiKids at the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 8–18: Start your child on the journey to becoming a powerful wizard with Magic: The Gathering, a turn-based trading card game, and MagiKids! Developed to introduce young players to the concepts of Magic: The Gathering, MagiKids encourages participants to sort and build their own custom deck of spells, creatures, and artifacts before they challenge other players to a game that relies on skill just as much as luck and that encourages them to use critical thinking skills to overcome the pitfalls of random chance.

We will be hosting a glow party for sons (ages 3-12) and their mothers (or other significant females) on Saturday, February 8, 2025. 6 – 9 p.m. The price is $45/couple; additional tickets are $10 each. Don’t miss your chance for an evening of play and fun. Saturday, February 8. Annual Pancake Breakfast. Join us for our 2025 Pancake Breakfast at Fowler Park! Enjoy a breakfast of hot pancakes, sausage and drinks. After head to Prairie Creek for tour of our maple syrup operation where you can learn how we tap trees, boil and bottle our syrup. Anyone who takes their pancake breakfast token, received at the breakfast, to Prairie Creek to be entered into a drawing for a prize! All syrup for the breakfast will be made at Prairie Creek! These good-natured therapy dogs are eager to listen to your child practice reading aloud in a stress-free setting, complete with cuddles, belly rubs, and ear scratches!

Perfect for beginning or inexperienced sewers, Sew Simple will introduce you to the sewing machines available in Haute Create at the Vigo County Public Library and teach you how to set up a machine for use. At this Sew Simple session, personalize your keys or name badge with a custom lanyard.
Wednesday, February 19. Hoosier Prairie, Riley, Dixie Bee, Fuqua, and Sugar Creek teachers have agreed to take on the Harlem Wizards for The Harlem Wizards vs the Scholar Ballers! Terre Haute South, 3737 S 7th Street. The game begins at 6:30 PM and the doors will open at 5:30 PM. Be sure to purchase your tickets in advance. An online processing fee of $1.50 per ticket will be added to your final total and your ticket will be scanned for entry at the door.
What makes a Wizards show “awe-inspiring” or as the kids and teens say, “off the hizzle?” Some say it’s the oohs and aahs created by the thunderous, sky-high slams. For others it’s the humor and seeing the teachers being good sports and having fun on the court with the Wizards. The comedy, the audience participation, the spontaneity delivered as a world class show, in an intimate and community setting adds up to a night to be experienced and treasured.
