Ongoing December Events

Dec 1, 2, 7, 8, and 9. 1940’s Radio Hour at Community Theatre of Terre Haute. A different time is evoked in this marvelously theatrical and winning show, a live broadcast of a The Mutual Manhattan Variety Cavalcade from the Hotel Astor’s Algonquin Room on December 21, 1942. $20 Adults, $15 Students.

Dec 3-26. 5:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. Christmas in the Park. Take a drive through Deming Park and enjoy the decorated shelters.

Dec 3, 8, 9, 10, 15, and 16. Pictures with Santa at Deming Park. Stop by the Holiday House to visit with Santa. Pictures are just $1 thanks to Walmart. 1 printed picture per family

Dec 3 and 10. 10:00 a.m. Tiny Tot Time at VCPL Main Branch. Ages 0 – 3: Bring your baby or toddler to the library for stories, songs, dance, and activities from 10:00 am – 10:30 am. There will be 30 minutes of free play offered from 10:30 am – 11:00 am.

Dec 5 and 12. 10:00 a.m. Wiggle Worms Wednesdays at VCPL Main Branch. Ages 3-5: Bring your preschooler to the Library for interactive stories, songs, dancing, crafts and play from 10:00am to 10:30am.  There will be 30 minutes of free play offered from 10:30am to 11:00am

Dec 7 (5:00-8:00 p.m.), Dec 8, 15, 22, 26-29 (11:00-3:00 p.m.). Elf Games at the Terre Haute Children’s Museum. Navigate your way through all of the various activities which include experimenting with different recipes for making fake snow, and using playdough to practice your cookie-making skills. Free with admission.

Dec 14 and Dec 20. 5:00 p.m. Santa Visit at Indiana State University Bookstore. We try and have him do an activity with the kids that varies from Reading a story, coloring, or even games. Santa will save time for people to grab pictures and to listen to any gift requests from the children.

Dec 18-22, 26-29. 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Craft Time Open House at Dobbs Park. Cost varies depending on craft. Stop by the nature center and make a craft or two. Several crafts will be available to choose from. All materials are supplied.

Weekly December Events

Mon and Tues. Movin’ Mamas of Terre Haute. Why wait for the New Years, join us for some mama movement this December! We will be building strength, confidence, technique, and a strong fitness base along side other perfectly imperfect mothers.

Tues (except Thurs 27th instead of Tues 25th). 9:30 a.m. Chick Fil A story time. Free Mini’s for kids under 12.

Thurs. Wigwam free skate.

Fri, Sat and Sun. 6:00-10:00 p.m. Bean Blossom Lights in Morgantown, IN. Experience this interactive light show with your entire family this season. $20 for up to 5 passengers.

Tues Dec 18. 3:30 p.m. Painting with Nicole at VCPL West Branch. Paint a masterpiece with Nicole. Follow along step by step as she shows you painting techniques.  Each child will take home their own painting. Registration Required.

Wed Dec 19. 4:30 p.m. Storytime with the mayor at McDonalds on Wabash. They usually will read a book, they will play a question game about the book for free prizes (usually a dice that they roll with fun little goodies on each side) then they will play flash cards or whatever the kids want! They each leave with a little gift bag.

Wed Dec 19. 7:00 p.m. The Wizards of Winter at Indiana Theatre. Tickets $29-$49. With original members of The Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

Thurs Dec 20. 6:00 p.m. Watch This! Mission: Impossible-Fallout at VCPL Main Branch. Ethan Hunt is assigned a mission against The Apostles, a terrorist group made up of members from the fallen crime organization, The Syndicate. Rated PG-13. Refreshments will be served.

Thurs Dec 20. Chick Fil A Welcome Home Family Christmas Event. Family night, Live Music, games out for families to play, and food sampling.

Fri Dec 21. 4:00 p.m. Holiday Karaoke at VCPL West Branch. Celebrate the sounds of the season and sing your heart out at karaoke.

Fri Dec 21. 5:00 p.m.- 10:00 p.m. KIDS’ NIGHT OUT at Vigo County YMCA. Delicious December. Join the YMCA youth team for an evening of holiday kid-friendly baking! Plus – make your own holiday ornament! ages 18 months – 12 years.  Member Rate: $15 first child/$10 additional children. Nonmember Rate: $25 first child/ $15 additional children.

Wed Dec 26. 6:30 p.m.-10:00 p.m.  Skateworld. Extended skate. $2.00 admission, skates extra and a $5.00 all you can eat pizza and drink buffet.

Wed Dec 26-Fri Dec 28. 1:00-3:00 p.m. Skateworld $2.50 admission, skates rental extra.

Thurs Dec 27. 12:00 p.m. Watch This! West Incredibles 1&2 at VCPL West Branch. The Incredibles, a family of superheroes trying to live a quiet suburban life after superheroes are deemed illegal, are forced into action to save the world. Both movies rated PG. Pizza and snacks provided.

Children and parents will be provided with a breakfast bar by our host. Breakfast bar is 10:00 – 10:30, storytime starts at 10:30.

Fri Dec 28. 11:00 a.m. Virtual Reality at VCPL Main Branch. Experience the world of virtual reality!  Kids ages 12 and up can speak whale to a passerby in theBlu.  Get a rhythm with BeatSaber! Repair BB-8 and his droid pals in Star Wars: Droid Repair Bay.  Enjoy all of these new places with the HTC Vive VR System at VCPL.

Mon Dec 31. 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. New Year’s Noon at Terre Haute Children’s Museum. Are you ready for a rockin’ New Year’s Eve party? At noon we’ll be ringing in the New Year with a balloon drop, dance party, and karaoke! Kids don’t have to stay up till midnight to celebrate! Welcome the New Year at Noon, kid-style! Included with admission.

Mon Dec 31. 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Noon Year’s Eve Party at Brazil Public Library. Come join the fun at our first “Noon Year’s Eve Party” for ages 13 & Under. Ring in 2019 with Crafts, Games & Food. Parents MUST RSVP children before December 28th!

Mon Dec 31. 7:00 p.m.-2:00 a.m. Skateworld $15.00 admission, skates extra. Giving away a bike a pair of skates, t-shirts, free party favors, games and more prizes. Free biscuits and gravy at 1 am, balloon drop and count down.

Mon Dec 31. 8:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m. Zorah Shrine New Year’s Eve Party. $30 per person. Includes dinner, breakfast, party favors and champagne toast.

Mon Dec 31. 10:00 p.m. NYE at the Terre Haute Brewery. Bring in the NYE with some Big Fun at the Terre Haute Brewing Company!

Sat Dec 1. Jingle Bells by Deming Park Pottery. All Ages Welcome. Come make a Holiday themed clay bell. $7 per participant. Bells will be ready for pick-up December 20th. Limit 10 students per class.

Sat Dec 1. 9:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. (CST). Holly Days 2018 in Marshall, IL. Stop by Harlan Hall for all your shopping needs. Local vendors will be set up with a variety of items. Boy Scout Troop #276 will be serving breakfast and lunch.

Sat Dec 1. 9:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. Pet Pictures with Santa Paws at Airport Veterinary Clinic. No charge for photos, but donations will be accepted for Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital. Appointments are preferred.

Sat Dec 1. 9:30 a.m. Baby Explorer: Ice Ice Baby at the Terre Haute Children’s Museum.Cold weather is here! We love to explore ice this time of year. Babies will experience chilly hands-on activities using snow and ice. Includes admission. Registration is required. Ages 0-2 and their caregiver.

Sat Dec 1. 10:00 a.m. Mother Goose on the Loose / Mamá Gansa at VCPL Main Branch. Mother Goose now in Spanish and English! Join Mother Goose for an interactive bilingual storytime with books, songs, rhymes and musical instruments.  You and your child will play together and develop early literacy skills.

Sat Dec 1. 10:00 a.m. Wabash Valley Coder Dojo at VCPL Main Branch. Registration Required. Ages 7-17: Learn to code, build a website, create an app or a game and explore technology in an informal, creative and social environment.

Sat Dec 1. 11:15 a.m. Santa Arriving via Helicopter at The Meadows. Since the reindeer need to rest up for their journey around the world on Christmas Eve, Santa will make quite an entrance. Bring the little ones so they can see Santa fly to the Meadows in his “sleigh.”

Sat Dec 1. 12:00 p.m. Christmas With The King in Brazil. Elvis Presley Rock-n-Roll Rockabilly Blues & Gospel Tribute Show. Food-Games-With Fun Grinch theme this year. Bring the entire Family! Dress up is welcomed, But not necessary…Open to the Public!

Sat Dec 1. Help re-open the pool at the Vigo County YMCA with this fundraiser! Reservations to by November 28th. Checks made out to the YMCA – Memo “Pool Fund” or to Brenda Williams. Help us reach our goal of $1,250 on December 1st. Stop by to visit with friends to share in our bake sale even if you don’t want to paint. The goal of this fundraiser is to make monetary waves, so bring your checkbook! Your donation and purchase of baked goods, crafts, or silent auction items add to our goal above painting fees.

Sat Dec 1. 1:00 p.m. Christmas Fun at the Woods at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. You’re invited to enjoy a festive afternoon with the Sisters of Providence and your neighbors. There will be activities, crafts, cookie-decorating, face painting, wagon rides, a holiday sing-a-long and more! $5 per person. Children 3 and under are free.

Sat Dec 1. 3:00- 5:00 p.m. Jingle Jam at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. We’ll start off our Jingle Jam in the worship center as we celebrate with all sorts of fun! Then will move to the fellowship center for milk and cookies, and we’ll put compassion into practice by making some Christmas gifts for some very special people!

Sat Dec 1. 4:00 p.m. Christmas Walk at Fowler Park. General Admission is Free! Walk through the village and visit our pioneer volunteers in their cozy 19th century cabins. For a small fee, enjoy carriage rides, crafts, hot drinks, and sweet treats. Stop into our Gift Shop for many homemade items.

Sat Dec 1. 5:00 p.m. Santa and Me Cookie Jar Night at SHEWEY’S in Paris, IL. We will be creating BEAUTIFUL Santa & Me Handprint Cookie Jars.  Santa will be here to offer his Handprint and his Help in creating these Beautiful Keepsake Jars! Reservation only. $40/jar.

Sat Dec 1. 7:30 p.m. Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra at Indiana State University. Tickets $38.

Sat Dec 1. 8:00 p.m. Michael Jackson Tribute Concert at Indiana Theatre. Starring America’s #1 Michael Jackson impersonator Danny Dash Andrews. Be a part of this incredible concert experience that pays tribute to the life and legacy of The King of Pop. Tickets $20-$50.

Sat Dec 1 and Sun Dec 2. 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Tri Kappa Presents 46th House of the Christmas Mouse. Children can create ornaments, decorate cookies, make reindeer food, visit the Talking Christmas Tree, shop in the secret buying room and, visit and photograph memories with Mrs. Mouse herself! Tickets are $2 per person.

Sun Dec 2. 2:00-6:00 p.m. Farrington’s Grove Holiday Home Tour. Admission $10. Early tickets sales are NOT available online, but are available at Feminine Mystique and from select board members.

Sun Dec 2. 2:30-4:30 p.m. Happiness Bag’s Great Christmas Encounter. Get their picture taken with Santa and watch the Christmas classic, “The Grinch.” All guests will be encouraged to decorate a cookie with Santa’s helpers, enjoy a cup of hot chocolate, and make a keepsake ornament to take home. Tickets are $10.00/participant

Sun Dec 2. 3:45 p.m. Christmas in the Park Run/Walk at Deming Park hosted by Wabash Valley Road Runner’s Club. 5K Run/Walk, 3K Race for middle school age and under, 1/2 Mile Reindeer Romp for kids 8 and under. Tickets $15 and $25.

Mon Dec 3. 5:00 p.m. Hour of Code with Wonder Woman at VCPL Main Branch. Registration Required. Help Wonder Woman navigate obstacles and reach her goal. You’ll use the power of sequences, variables, loops and conditionals to help Diana train against her opponents.

Mon Dec 3. 5:30 p.m. Candy Cane Hunt. Join us for our 4th Annual Candy Cane Hunt. It will take place on the playground at Deming Park. There will be multiple waves in each age group. Open to ages 2-12.

Mon Dec 3. 6:00 p.m. Christmas in the Park Opening Night. Take a drive through Deming Park and enjoy the decorated shelters. Lights will be turned on nightly from December 3-26. Take a Ride on the Holiday Train.  Enjoy free hot chocolate and  a cookie. Be sure to bundle up for a chilly night.

Tues Dec 4. 3:30 p.m. Design your own “Google Doodle” with Hour of Code at VCPL Main Branch. Use your creativity and imagination to bring the Google logo to life using code. Make the letters dance, tell a story or create a game. Registration Required.

Tues Dec 4. 4 p.m. Cuddle with a Canine at VCPL West Branch. Finnick, a certified therapy dog with Love on a Leash, will visit with his human Lauren to explain the types of care and responsibilities these furry friends provide.

Wed Dec 5. 6:00 p.m. Watch This! The Meg at VCPL Main Branch. An expert deep sea diver encounters a mysterious danger while on a rescue mission, but his far-fetched claim of being attacked by an enormous sea monster costs him his career. Rated PG-13. Refreshments will be served.

Wed Dec 5. 7:30 p.m. A Charlie Brown Christmas at Indiana State University.

Thurs Dec 6. 8:30 a.m. Chick Fil-A Senior Christmas Party Bingo. Free refillable beverage for seniors over 55.

Thurs Dec 6. 4:00 p.m. Learn Code with Minecraft at VCPL West Branch. Journey through Minecraft with Hour of Code is held each year during Computer Science Education Week.  Registration Required.

Thurs Dec 6. 6:00-10:00 p.m. Santa Celebration Dance at Wabash Activity Center. Join us as we celebrate Christmas Dancing. Dinner will be provided . you may carry in a side dish if you wish. You pay at the door. Cost is $5.00 single and $8.00 couples.

Thurs Dec 6. 7:00p.m. Christmas Concert! at Northside Community United Methodist Church. You are invited to a very special Christmas Concert featuring the children and youth of our community. The North High School Counterpoints Choir, the Otter Creek Middle School Choir, and the Woodrow Wilson Middle School Choir, will be presenting an evening of Christmas songs. Free.

Fri Dec 7. 2:00 p.m. Santa and Me Cookie Jar Night at SHEWEY’S Honey Creek Mall. We will be creating BEAUTIFUL Santa & Me Handprint Cookie Jars.  Santa will be here to offer his Handprint and his Help in creating these Beautiful Keepsake Jars! Reservation only. $40/jar.

Fri Dec 7. 5:00 p.m. History Center Sneak Peek. Come out and see how the construction has been progressing to transform the old Ehrmann Manufacturing Company building into the new History Center! Staff and volunteers will be on hand to accept donations if you’d like to help Stiffy Green move to his new home. Free.

Fri Dec 7. 7:30 p.m. A Canadian Brass Christmas at Hatfield Hall. Masters of concert presentations — from formal classical concerts to music served up with lively dialogue and theatrical effects — Canadian Brass has developed a uniquely engaging stage presence and rapport with audiences. Tickets $10-$35.

Sat Dec 8. 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. BREAKFAST WITH SANTA! at Clay County YMCA in Brazil. Join us for a morning filled with Christmas cheer including breakfast, holiday crafts, and pictures with Santa himself. Free.

Sat Dec 8. 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Holiday Craft & Vendor Fair in Clinton. Hosted by PVCYM Youth Center. No door charge for shoppers!!! Come shopping and get free Christmas cookies and hot chocolate or coffee while they last!

Sat Dec 8. 10:00 a.m. Chick Fil-A Christmas Party with Santa Cow. Crafts, games, santa cow.

Sat Dec 8. 10:00 a.m. Merry Grinchmas! in Brazil. All the Whos down in Whoville cannot wait for this hour-long event complete with Grinchy games, crafts and snack! This family event is $6 per person and is perfect for children of all ages.

Sat Dec 8. 1:00-3:00  p.m. Mickey & Minnie at the Brazil Elks. Mickey and Minnie will be on site for Christmas photos. We will have cookies and milk! Pictures will be $10 per print. The crafts will be $5 per ornament.

Sat Dec 8. 6:00 p.m. “Light Your Way” Christmas Parade. The parade will begin at the intersection of 5th Street and Wabash Avenue, heading east on Wabash and continuing until 9 ½ Street. The area between 5th and 6th Streets will be a sensory friendly block, with no music and material handouts instead of candy.

Sun Dec 9. 1:00-5:00 p.m. Holiday Pop-Up Market at Studio 1820. Pick up unique, one-of-a-kind, handmade gifts for your friends and family.

Sun Dec 9. 1:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer The Musical in Indianapolis. It’s an adventure that teaches us that what makes you different can be what makes you special. Don’t miss this wonderful holiday tradition that speaks to the misfit in all of us. Tickets $36-$46.

Sun Dec 9. 2:00 p.m. Calling all potters-Soup Bowl. Come help make soup bowls for the Catholic Charities Soup Bowl Benefit. Come and throw three soup bowls for charity and make one to keep for yourself. This is a free event. Previous experience and registration required (limit 12).

Mon Dec 10. 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Pizza Gallery Meet Mickey and Minnie in Clay City.

Tues Dec 11. 10:00 a.m. Tot Time: Seasonal Shapes & Sounds at the Terre Haute Children’s Museum. You and your toddler are sure to join in the holiday spirit as we identify, name and create patterns with basic holiday shapes. Ages 2-5 and their caregiver. Included with admission.

Tues Dec 11. Get On The Map! at VCPL Main and West branches. Step in to the library and join us for a fun adventure on the giant floor map of Indiana! Stand in the county where you were born. Discover the names of the rivers and lakes that are near your home. In socked feet, students play an active part in this map activity.


Tues Dec 11. From Dope to Hope. FREE community event with FREE food and a FREE t-shirt for attendees!

It’s no secret that our community has a drug crisis! But there are many, many local people (including our partner, Mental Health America) who are fighting this epidemic through education, relationship building, and positive connections.

Want to take some preventative action for your kids or inspire someone who is struggling or vulnerable? Check out this FREE event coming to Terre Haute!

Thurs Dec 13. 3:30 p.m. Wintery Mix Crafts at VCPL West Branch. Create winter themed mini wreaths, snowflakes, and more.

Thurs Dec 13. 6:00 p.m. Grinch Galore at VCPL Main Branch. Enjoy a family friendly Whovacious storytime with hostess Cindy Lou Who, Whopendous crafts, activities, and the 1966 original film, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!  Sweet Science Ice Cream Lab will serve all the trimmings and even the Grinch has an idea of attending.

Thurs Dec 13. 7:30 p.m. Christmas Radio Play By The Crosley Radio Players at Wabash Activity Center. They will recreate the 1947 Lux Radio Version of “It’s a Wonderful Life”. This program always puts you into that Christmas Spirit.  Tickets are $10.00 adults and $6.00 children available at the Center. Light refreshments provided.

Fri Dec 14. Vigo County Public Library closed all day.

Fri Dec 14. 1:00-4:00 p.m. Sensitive Santa at the Meadows.  Every child deserves some time with Santa during the holiday season. This will provide a sensory-friendly experience for children. Photo packages: (2) 5x7s for $15 and $5 for any additional 5x7s.

Fri Dec 14. 6:30 p.m. Holiday Party…featuring the Troy Stone Band! at The Dance Studio.

Fri Dec 14. 7:00 p.m. Candlelight Christmas. Come for an evening of worship, prayer and dance, singing Scriptures about the birth and life of Jesus. He is worthy of all honor and praise!

Fri Dec 14 and Sat Dec 15. Christmas at the Drive-In! Hosted by Garrett Sands Kindness Project. Put on your pajamas, grab a cup of hot chocolate, and take a ride on The Polar Express at The Moonlite Drive-In. Santa and Mrs. Clause will be here from 3 to 5:30 pm both days to greet the children. POLAR EXPRESS will play at 5 pm, followed by a showing of CHRISTMAS VACATION, starting at 7 pm. Free.

Sat Dec 15. Holiday Extravaganza at Fresh Thyme. Bring your appetite and see how we can create the perfect meal for you and your family! There will also be cookie decorating, entertainment and an appearance by Santa for photo ops!

Sat Dec 15. 10:00-4:00 p.m. Holiday OPEN HOUSE at Venus + Vine. We’ll bring the wine and snacks and you bring you! We’ll have a fun GIVEAWAY going on for the day as well as early bird pricing on some of your favorite goodies PLUS a FREE GIFT with purchase to the first 15 shoppers.

Sat Dec 15. 12:00-2:00 p.m. Baby’s 1st Christmas at The Open Door Christian Bookstore. This is a FREE event! Each baby will receive a Christmas gift and a personalized ornament. There will be a photo opt, crafts, door prizes, and more!

Sat Dec 15. 1:00-5:00 p.m.  Open Gym, Snacks, and a Movie at Illiana Gymnastics Complex. Ages 5-13. $20/person.

Sat Dec 15. 5:00-10:00 p.m. Parent’s Night Out at Eduplay. 5 hours of child care, pizza, crafts, and movie time. Take some time to enjoy an evening out with full confidence that your kiddos are in good hands. Must register and pre-pay. One child $20. Two children $35. Three children $50. Four children $60.

Sat Dec 15. 6:00 p.m. Daddy Daughter Dance at Terre Haute Children’s Museum. Fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, uncles and father figures are invited to treat their little sweethearts to an evening of dress-up, hors d’oeuvres, dancing, live entertainment. Tickets are $35 ($40 after Dec. 1) for a father/daughter couple, $10 for each additional daughter.

Sun Dec 16. 1:30 p.m. Rose-Hulman Holiday Pops Concert. Join the Rose-Hulman concert band, choir, symphony, and jazz ensemble as they perform your favorite holiday classics to kick off the season! Hatfield Hall will be in the Holiday spirit. This event is FREE and open to the public!

Sun Dec 16. 5:30 p.m. Bethlehem Marketplace and Live Nativity at Terre Haute United Methodist Temple. Come and join us as we venture back to Bethlehem on the night that Jesus was born!  You might just get to see the wonder of the season happening right before your eyes among the animals, shepherds, kings and angels!
