Every year (for the past 11 years!) Haute Happenings has put together a calendar of holiday and Christmas events in Terre Haute and the Wabash Valley to be sure no one misses the fun.  We want you to have a holly, jolly Christmas, a festive holiday season, and a very happy New Year!

Thursday, December 19. Winter Snowglobes at the MAIN branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 6–12: You and your child can transform a plastic cup into a colorful snow globe keepsake for the holidays using tinsel, paint, and ribbon at Winter Snow Globes.

Thursday, December 19. Free holiday film fest at the Ritz Theater in ROCKVILLE. Christmas Vacation.

Friday, December 20. Grinchmas Party at the WEST Branch of the Vigo County Public Library. All Ages: Celebrate the holidays like they do in Whoville! Drop in to enjoy Grinch-inspired treats, crafts, and activities, watch the Grinch create mayhem in the 2018 animated adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ classic story, and take a photo with the Grinch.

Friday, December 20. Curious Kids: Bubble Art at the MAIN branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 6–12: At Curious Kids: Bubble Art, your child will discover how surface tension and color can be used to create a unique masterpiece!

Friday, December 20 and Saturday, December 21. Free showings of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation at the Moonlite Drive-In.

Saturday, December 21. Holiday Night Market with special guest at The Catmosphere Cat Cafe.

Saturday, December 21. Christmas Lights Ride with Griffin Bike Park and Vigo County Parks and Recreation. Join Us at Bicentennial Park for a Christmas Lights Ride! Decorate your bike and maybe yourself for Christmas and ride the Wabashiki Trail with the Griffin Bike Park manager on an adventurous 10-mile fundraising ride through the river bottoms. Hybrids and mountain bikes are recommended, helmets are required. This will be a social ride, with a rest break in the middle and hot chocolate and Apple Cider after the ride.

Saturday, December 21. Breakfast with Santa at Highland-Church. Bring your camera or phone to take your own photos!

Monday, December 23. Free holiday film fest at the Ritz Theater in ROCKVILLE. Polar Express.

November 29-December 23. Billie Creek will be dressed to impress with lights, wreaths, and special vendors. Join us daily from November 29 until December 23rd. Village buildings will be open each evening from 4-8pm to experience the beautiful holiday displays and throughout the village.
Visit the General Store to see what our special holiday vendors have to offer. Santa will be visiting! Find him each Friday in the Governor’s House to tell him your Christmas wish.

December 30. Happy New Year Cookie Class. Ring in the New Year with a Sweet Treat in this Sugar Cookie Class! Our New Year’s cookie decorating class will teach you everything you need to not drop the ball! Let’s frost into the future. We’ll be decorating six party-themed cookies – New Year, New Food! Each to-be-baker gets 6 cookies, 4 icing colors, a drink of your choice and a box to take home your cookies in. Ages 12 and over

December 31. New Year’s Eve Countdown at The Wigwam. Join us for our and come ring in the New Year just a little bit earlier for the younger ones New Years Eve Kids Countdown on Tuesday December 31 from 1:00pm – 4:00pm. Buy tickets in advance online for $12 includes admission, skate rental, ice cream sundae bar, kiddy cocktail, balloon drop with prizes, hats, horns, and noisemakers. Adult spectators are $8. This includes a soft drink and an ice cream sundae bar.

December 31. New Year’s Noon at the Terre Haute Children’s Museum.

The biggest party of the year is BACK! Come celebrate the New Year at the Terre Haute Children’s Museum.

This is a special event; previously purchased daily museum tickets are not valid.

Monday, December 2. Culinary Creators Family Cooking Classes for 6-9 year olds. Learn to prepare healthy meals with easy recipes for your family. There will be a physical activity component included with all classes, either hikes or biking the trails with a guide. These classes are free for participants! 

Monday, December 2. Lego Lab at the MAIN branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 6–11: Challenge your child’s construction skills, teamwork abilities, and creativity at Lego® Lab! Your child can attempt the monthly challenge or build their own designs. At the end of the evening, spend a few minutes touring everyone’s designs and learn how others solved problems in their own builds. Parents and caregivers with children under nine should assist with building.

Monday, December 2. A Very Electric Christmas at Indiana State University.

Monday, December 2. Candy Cane Hunt presented by Terre Haute Parks and Recreation. Ages 2-9. Stay for FIREWORKS and visit Santa at the Opening Night of Christmas in the Park.

Tuesday, December 3. Unleash your creativity in ceramics for ages 60+. Ages 60 & Up: Have you ever admired a hand-thrown cup or bowl but thought that the process of creating ceramics would be challenging to learn? Roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty with artist Hayley Bean! In this seven-week workshop, you will learn how to use a traditional potter’s wheel, trade stories with other attendees, and make a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. 

Tuesday, December 3. Crafting Creativity at the 12 Points Branch of the Vigo County Public Library.

Wednesday, December 4. FREE public concert by the Terre Haute Children’s Choir. If your child would ever consider choir, come watch this group perform to get a taste of what it looks like to sing together! 6:30 pm. Landini Recital Hall.

Wednesday, December 4. I Survived Book Club at the MAIN branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 7–12: Carmen, a young Italian immigrant who recently moved to the United States with her father, must fight for her life when a sudden tsunami of molasses explodes from its storage tank in Lauren Tarshis’ I Survived the Great Molasses Flood, 1919.

Wednesday, December 4. Seasonal Sounds: THSO Brass Quintet at Ivy Tech. The THSO Brass Quintet returns to Ivy Tech! Join our Principal brass musicians for an afternoon of your favorite holiday tunes at Oakley Auditorium on Wednesday December 4, 2024 at 2pm. This concert is FREE and open to the public!

Wednesday, December 4. Pictures with Santa in BRAZIL, IN. All are welcome to visit Santa and have a picture taken! There is no cost to come have fun, partake of treats and beverages, visit with friends and family, and tell the “big guy” what you want for Christmas.

Thursday, December 5. Silent Era Reading Club at the 12 POINTS branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Socialize with other readers, discuss your favorite books and genres with fellow enthusiasts, or enjoy some quiet reading time at the Silent Era Reading Club. Bring your own book—or check one out from the 12 Points Library to enjoy!

Friday, December 6. Farrington Grove Chorale Holiday Pops Concert. Join the Farrington Grove Chorale for their annual Holiday Pops! concert that kicks off Miracle on 7th Street! The Chorale will be singing music by composers such as Elaine Hagenberg, Jacob Narverud, Richard Burchard, Michael Praetorius, and more. The North Clay Middle School Show Choir will open the concert and the new octet, Envoxis, will also be featured

Friday, December 6. Fairy Tale Rescues at the MAIN branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 3-5: Can your budding engineer help the Three Little Pigs build a wolf-proof house or find a troll-free way for the Billy Goats Gruff to cross the river? At Fairy Tale Rescues, storytime comes alive when your child designs creative new solutions to the problems their favorite characters face in classic fables!

Friday, December 6. 3D Print Night at the WEST branch of the Vigo County Public Library. All Ages: Learn how to take your ideas from concept to creation at 3D Print Night! At this interactive demonstration of the West Branch Library’s 3D printer, you’ll journey through every phase of designing a print—from the inception of an idea to the polishing of a final product.

Friday, December 6. Curious Kids: Unpoppable Bubble at the MAIN branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 6–12: Has your child ever wanted to hold a bubble in their hand? With Curious Kids: Unpoppable Bubbles, they can learn how to create their own super-strong bubble and discover the secrets that make these bubbles last.

Christmas is a time for magic—a time for the traditions we cherish—a time to watch as many original TV movies as a human being can possibly endure. But now with The Holiday Channel Christmas Movie Wonderthon, you can enjoy the sugar rush of six Christmas movies all at once! Welcome to Hopewood Falls, Vermont, where singles in adorable sweaters converge to look for love. Can disguises help royalty and/or movie stars find the down-to-earth connections they crave? Friday, December 6-December 8. Home for the Holidays festival in ROBINSON, IL. Join for the second annual Home for the Holidays Festival to be held on December 6th-8th. This 3-day festival will transform the Robinson Civic Center into a festive wonderland where there will be ice skating, bounce houses, train rides, a live reindeer encounter, family-friendly activities, life size snow globe, local vendors, food makers, photos with Santa, must-see Christmas displays and so much more!

Friday, December 6-Saturday, December 7. Candy Canes on Main in CASEY, IL. The event kicks off with a fantastic lighted Parade that travels through downtown Casey, Illinois with Santa arriving via a Fire Truck. Other highlights include Santa reading ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, star light shopping, inflatable bumper cars, and more!

Friday, December 6-Sunday, December 8. Meet the Santa Train! Climb aboard the stationary, vintage passenger car to visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, mail a letter to Santa, mix and mingle with beloved characters while you wait. Admission is FREE! Nearby locations include Linton, Dugger, Jasonville, and Sullivan.

Friday, December 6 and Saturday, December 7. Fowler Park Christmas Walk. Step back in time to walk through our Pioneer Village and visit our pioneer volunteers in their cozy 19th-century cabins to see how they celebrate Christmas! Hot drinks and special sweet treats will be available for purchase in the barn then stop by our Village Mercantile to view our homemade items and do some Christmas shopping. Be sure to visit the Covered Bridge to meet our special guest, Santa Claus and, Saturday only, his reindeer! This will be a perfect family event to kick off the holiday season! Shop from thousands of items, including books with an average price of $1.00, DVDs, CDs, magazines, and more. The Friends’ Sale will be open to the general public on Saturday, December 7, and Sunday, December 8.

Saturday, December 7. The Gift of Music with the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra. Embrace the season with Christmas classics and enchanting discoveries! Plan now to let the music of the season weave another magical memory for you and your family as we experience the Gift of Music during this season of giving.

Saturday, December 7. Main Street by Moonlight in BRAZIL, IN. On Saturday, December 7, 2024 select stores in Brazil will be open late with discounts, specials, and treats! Come stroll down Main Street, support the local businesses, and finish up all of your Christmas shopping! All local businesses in Brazil are welcome to participate! Santa will be at A Bushel & A Peck from 6pm to 9pm! Bring the kids and your own camera to get FREE pics with Santa! The Shed & Co. will have carriage rides from 6-9pm! Bring a donation for Toys for Tots to ride the carriage.

Saturday, December 7. Christmas in Deming Park with Vigo County Public Library. All Ages: All aboard the annual Holiday Express! Tickets for the Friday night ride on Deming Park’s miniature train will be covered by the Vigo County Public Library so you and your family can ride at no cost. Board the Spirit of Terre Haute at Kaufman Station for a tour of the decorated shelters and don’t forget to vote for your favorite to win the People’s Choice Award.

Saturday, December 7. Christmas in the Park 5k and Reindeer Romp. Christmas in the Park, sponsored by Chick-fil-A, will be held on December 7 at Deming Park. This race benefits Clothe a Child with 50% of the proceeds going to the organization. This race includes a 5K run/walk option for adults and youth, and a 1-mile Reindeer Romp for youth who are 8 years old and under. The Reindeer Romp will start at 9:50 a.m. with the 5K starting after that. The deadline to register and receive a t-shirt is Sunday, November 30.

Saturday, December 7. Grinchmas at Hoosier Aviation. Photos with the Grinch, bake sale treats, coloring station, and airplanes to see.

Saturday, December 7. Cocoa and Cookies Kids’ Class at Sprinkles in West Terre Haute, IN. Kids ages 5-11 will get hands-on as they decorate 3 delicious cookies to take home and enjoy a warm cup of cocoa. It’s the perfect holiday activity for young cookie artists!

Saturday, December 7. Kids’ Club at D&L Creations Paint Studio. Paint a groovy tree for Christmas!

Saturday, December 7. Clinton Public Library presents Saturday with Santa. Visit with Santa, make crafts, decorate cookies.

Saturday, December 7 and Sunday, December 8. Mouse House at Ben Franklin Elementary School. Talking Christmas Tree, snacks, reindeer bar, crafts, Mrs. Mouse, and fun! Special sensory-friendly session from 9am-10am on Sunday. $2 per person admission.

Saturday, December 7 and Sunday, December 8. Home for the Holidays in JASONVILLE. Lighted parade, facepainting, cookie decorating, photo booths, candy cane hunt, craft stations, tree lighting, library storytime, and more! Unreal Nightmares haunted house will have a holiday-themed extravaganza.

Sunday, December 8. Christmas show with musical guests, children’s choir, dancers, and handbell choir at the Historic Ritz Theater in Rockville.

Sunday, December 8. Holiday Cookies with Sycamore Samta Santa at the Terre Haute Children’s Museum hosted by the ISU Alumni Association.

Sunday, December 8. Winter Music Fest at First Congregational Church of Terre Haute. Traditional and contemporary music for the Christmas season.

December 9, 16, and 23. December pottery kids and family clay project with Terre Haute Parks and Recreation.

You and your little one will enjoy exploring a new language at L’heure du Conte! Learn about French culture and language through songs, nursery rhymes, books, games, activities, and stories. 

Tuesdays, December 3, 10, and 17. Euchre Bustle at the 12 POINTS branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Can your team win the most tricks? Or are you going to go alone in this classic card game? Bring your partner and square off against other Euchre enthusiasts while enjoying light snacks. Other card games will be available in the event that there are not four players.

Tuesday, December 10. Free holiday film fest at the Ritz Theater in ROCKVILLE. Elf.

Wednesday, December 11. Maker Hour: Creative Gift Wrapping at the WEST Branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 6 & Up: Use stamps to create patterns on wrapper paper, make embellishments and custom gift tags, or add designs to a small gift bag at Maker Hour: Creative Gift Wrapping.

Wednesday, December 11. DIY Harry Potter Ornaments at the MAIN branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 12–17: Whether you’re a Gryffindor or a Slytherin, make a banner worthy of hanging on the tree of your Hogwarts House this holiday season!

Wednesday, December 11. UEFA Champions League: Borussia Dortmund vs. Barcelona at the 12 POINTS branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 6 & Up: Step onto the pitch and get ready for the kick-off as the German-based Borussia Dortmund sports club takes on Spain’s FC Barcelona in the Union of European Football Associations’ Champions League. Learn more about the teams, where their members are from, and the rules and history of soccer. Registered attendees will have the chance to win one of five prizes—a grand prize and four smaller prizes.

Thursday, December 12. Read to Walter at the 12 POINTS branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 5 & Up: Is your child uncomfortable reading out loud? Maybe they just need a friendly ear—and Walter the Goldendoodle is ready to listen. Walter is a licensed therapy dog from the Alliance of Therapy Dogs who’s eager to hear a good story and whose calm presence will build your reluctant reader’s confidence.

Thursday, December 12. Santa Claus is Coming to Town with the Terre Haute North Cheer Team. Come celebrate the holiday season with the Terre Haute North Cheer Team! We will be hosting a Christmas Cheer clinic on December 12th, from 6-8:30 pm. Your child will be learning a dance that will be performed during halftime at the boy’s basketball game on December 13th. Friday, December 13. 12 Points Cookbook Club at the “garage” at the 12 Points branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Expand your palate and your repertoire of recipes with the 12 Points Cookbook Club. Visit the 12 Points Library before Friday, December 13, and choose a recipe from this month’s selected cookbook, Go-To Dinners by Ina Garten, to make at home. When the Cookbook Club meets, bring your dish with you and share it with others while you taste their creations and discuss the experience.

Friday, December 13. Rock the Highlands with Highlands Reign at the MAIN branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 21 & Up: Highland Reign’s progressive folk rock will transport you to the mountains of the Scottish Highland with a blend of guitar, fiddle, and bagpipes. The holiday tradition is back! Celebrate the coming of Christmas with the Sisters of Providence at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.

Guests of all ages are invited to the Providence Spirituality and Conference Center for an afternoon full of fun for the whole family including crafts, alpaca visits, wagon rides, storytelling, face painting, bake sale, cake walk and much more.

There may even be a special visit from Santa himself!

The sisters cherish this event and enjoy sharing the fun of the season with the community.

The event will take place from 1:30-4:30 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 14.

Featured event! Saturday, December 14. Winter Jubilee at the Terre Haute Children’s Museum. A winter extravaganza for young girls ages 3-12 and their dads (or other significant male figures) on Saturday, December 14, 2024 from 6-9 p.m. Tickets are on sale now! The early bird price is $40/couple until December 1 and then will rise to $45/couple. Additional tickets are available for $10 each. Don’t miss your chance for an evening of play and fun.

This year’s event will feature winter themed experiments, dancing, karaoke, limo rides, photo opportunities and of course free play inside the Terre Haute Children’s Museum. Young ladies will have the chance to make their own bath bombs, decorate snowflake cookies and visit with winter fairies from The Heartland Fairies.
