Need a Midwest road trip idea? Check out the Prairie Guest House Bed and Breakfast!
|We love to travel with our kids, and I often get asked for Midwest road trip ideas though Haute Happenings. Many of us have taken fabulous weekend road trips to Chicago and French Lick. While those places are fun, sometimes it’s nice to switch things up!
Our latest family road trip was to Fishers, Indiana. Fishers is just 1 hour and 45 minutes from Terre Haute. It’s an easy drive, but special because it’s beyond our “usual” downtown Indy destinations such as the Indy zoo or children’s museum.
For this trip, we were the guests of John and Karen, the owners of a boutique bed and breakfast called the Prairie Guest House.
Although our stay was comped, all opinions are our own.
The guest house is part boutique hotel and part traditional bed and breakfast. Each of the eight rooms has a private bathroom. There’s coffee and tea in the shared living space, wifi in your room, and handmade goat’s milk soap in your bathroom. Details such as these will help make your stay cozy and comfortable.
Kids are definitely welcome, but this bed and breakfast would also make for a great kid-free getaway!
One of my favorite details about the Prairie Guest House is that it’s right across the street from Conner Prairie! Have you been? If not, click on over to read all about our day at Conner Prairie! I’m certain that if you stay at the Prairie Guest House that you’ll want to include Conner Prairie in your vacation plans!
(Can you tell our oldest daughter was excited about the air balloon? YES, that’s right. There’s an air balloon ride at Conner Prairie!)
Since the guest house is so close to Conner Prairie, we got to sit on the porch, drink tea, and listen to the Symphony on the Prairie music before bed.
In the morning, you can expect a delicious breakfast prepared by chef John. John can customize the breakfast menu to meet your dietary needs, but we were happy to let him surprise us. The mushroom strata and the squash from the on-site gardens were the highlights for the adults.
Our girls were happy with eggs, pancakes, fruit, banana bread, fresh juice, and hot tea. Once they finished breakfast, they explored the large dining room in search of the friendly cat, Fiona.
If you’re into yoga, you’ll love that Karen has been teaching yoga for 18 years. There’s a yoga studio on the property! Classes are Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30-10:30am and Saturday from 10-11am. You can find more info on Prairie Yoga Studio.
In the mood for a swim? The Prairie Guest House can provide you with passes for a members-only pool that’s right around the corner from the property. Or you can do what we did and head to the Fishers YMCA. The Fishers YMCA is fabulous! Water slides, splash pad, fountains, and possibly free admission! Read all of the details HERE.

When you visit, be sure to tell them you heard about their property on Haute Happenings!
