It’s getting hot, hot, hot! Grab your family calendar, and make plans for summer fun! We found 40 July events in Terre Haute and the Wabash Valley in 2021! 


  • Mondays and Fridays. Food parcel distribution from Samaritan Pantry Food Parcel Distribution. 
  • Tuesdays. Pop-Up Tuesday-Recreational Sporting Events with Vigo County Parks and Recreation. Join Rec Coordinator Tuesdays in July from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for some recreational summer fun! Every Tuesday, the Rec Coordinator will be at a different Vigo County Park with various sporting equipment for all ages. Stop by and play! All events are free and open to the public. 
  • Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Free summer movies in Robinson, IL. 
  • Wednesdays. July 7, July 14, and July 21. Skate with the characters (LOL surprise, Paw Patrol, and the Minions) at The Wigwam
  • Wednesdays. Summer Hiking Club at Hawthorn Park. Hike the trails of Hawthorn Park and J.I. Case Wetland Wildlife Refuge totaling approximately 2.5 – 3 miles. 
  • Wednesdays. Free family film festival at the Ritz Theater in Rockville
  • Fridays. Need food for the weekend? Take home food from Manna from Seven on Fridays at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.
  • Fridays. Community dinners at The Bridge church.
  • Saturdays. Visit the Terre Haute Outdoor Farmers Market at The Meadows.

July 1 and 3. Clue with Crossroads Repertory Theatre at ISU. 7:30 pm. $15 per ticket. 

Monday, July 5. Little Sprouts–What is Compost? Join this digital program from the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 2-8: Recycle plants, kitchen scraps, and yard cuttings to create a nutrition-rich fertilizer for your garden. Learn how to create your own compost and why it benefits your plants with this short, informational video available at bit.ly/VCPLYouTubeGardening.

Wednesday, July 7. Creek stompin’ for ages 5-12 at Deming Park. $5 per child per class. Masks and pre-registration required. 

Wednesday, July 7. Mother Goose on the Loose via Zoom. Read, sing, and play with Mother Goose! Your child will discover new books, practice listening and enjoy engaging activities. So clap your hands, toss a scarf, or shake a rattle as you follow along at home!

Friday, July 9. Juneteenth Film: No Time to Waste. Watch the Juneteenth film at Hawthorn Park. 

Friday, July 9 and Saturday, July 10 in Danville, IL. Balloons over Vermillion. Treat your family and friends to Balloon Fly-Outs, Tethered Rides, Balloon School, Food, Vendors, Live Music & much more!

Saturday, July 10. Griffin Bike Park Lake Jump. Join the VCPRD on Saturday, July 10th for our Griffin Bike Park Lake Jump Event! The event will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. directly following the Pump Track Series at Griffin Bike Park.

Saturday, July 10. Terre Haute Children’s Museum Discovers in the Park: Yummy-Ooey-Gooey Mixes. Discoverers will engage in stories, songs and play alongside their parent or caregiver during this hour long science exploration.

Saturday, July 10-Saturday, July 17. Visit the Vigo County Fair! Events, displays, auctions, rides, and attractions. 

Tuesday, July 12. Terre Foods Blueberry Festival

Tuesday, July 13. Leap into Science: Light and Shadows Preschool Workshop with the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 2-5: Hunt for shadows and cast your own using a variety of objects as you and your child explore the way light interacts with the environment. Kit registration and pickup begins Tuesday, June 30. Register to receive a Zoom link.

Wednesday, July 14. Kids’ Cooking at Deming Park. Pizza, Pizza! 

Thursday, July 15. Maker Kit to Go: These Tails are Sew Sweet! Ages 9 & Up: Sew your own cuddly friend-which animal you get is a surprise! Contact 812.232.1113 for more information. Registration begins Thursday, July 1; kit pickup begins Thursday, July 15 while supplies last. Free from the Vigo County Public Library. 

Friday, July 16. Join the VCPRD Friday, July 16th at Hawthorn Park from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for Ice Skating in the Park! They will have a skating rink and $1 train rides courtesy of DIY Rentals. Pre-registration is highly encouraged as spots will fill up quickly! To register, please call our administrative office at 812-462-3392 or email Rec Coordinator at Rec.Coordinator@VigoCounty.IN.gov.  There is a $5 fee for each participant and each participant will have 30 minutes of skate time. Ice skates will be provided as a part of your participation fee.

Saturday, July 17. Vigo County Public Library West Summer Celebration with Kona Ice. Kona Ice Tour begins at 1:00 p.m. at the West Vigo IGA and continues at 1:30 p.m. at the South 7th Street Park. Celebration at West Branch Library begins at 2:00 p.m. All Ages: Cool off this summer with a free Kona Ice and a new book! Kona Ice and Vigo County Public Library will be teaming up to pass out treats at the West Vigo IGA and the South 7th Street Park before heading to West Branch Library for outdoor games, music, and activities. Attend at one location or all three! Limit one Kona Ice and book per person.

Saturday, July 17. Summer in the Village. Join “Summer in the Village” as cabin caretakers open up their cabins for all to explore and demonstrate early 19th century skills and crafts. Free! 

Saturday, July 17. Intro to Blacksmithing at the Pioneer Village Blacksmith Shop. Work with experienced blacksmiths to learn how to operate a blacksmith forge, understand the parts of an anvil, and the uses for various hand tools in the blacksmith shop. 

Tuesday, July 20. Watch a free movie (Tom and Jerry) at the Moonlight Drive-in sponsored by The Wigwam. 

Wednesday, July 21. Creek stompin’ for ages 5-12 at Deming Park. $5 per child per class. Masks and pre-registration required. 

Friday, July 23. Free clinic Friday from Wabash Valley Children’s Dentistry. Free exam and cleaning for new patients ages 1-18.  

Friday, July 23. FREE movie in the park: The Game Plan. Bring your family, friends, blankets and chairs and join us for Vigo County Parks & Recreation Department’s Movie in the Park summer series with DeeJay Danny Wayne! The second movie of the 2021 summer Movie in the Park series is “The Game Plan” (2007) rated PG and will be showing at Prairie Creek Park. Concessions for purchase begin at 8:00 p.m. Movie starts at SUNDOWN (approx. 9:10 p.m.).

Friday, July 23. Terre Haute Children’s Museum Discoverers in the Park: Moon Madness. Discoverers will engage in stories, songs and play alongside their parent or caregiver during this hour long science exploration. 

Saturday, July 24. Terre Haute Community Band presents “Christmas in July” at Fairbanks Park. Free! 

Saturday, July 24. Kayak Rec Event. Join the VCPRD Saturday, July 24th at Prairie Creek Park from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. where our Rec Coordinator and Natural Resource Programmer will be giving hour-long informational kayak tours of the lake at the southern end of the park! Tours will include a brief introduction to the recreational benefits of kayaking and the ecology and biology of the lake. Afterward, participants will have the opportunity to paddle around the lake by themselves while being supervised by the staff!

Saturday, July 24. Terre Haute Children’s Museum “Top Chefs” annual fundraiser hosted at the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods Softball Complex. Funds raised at the event support the Museum in their mission to “enrich our children’s lives through the exploration of science and technology.” These important funds will not only help the Museum expand exhibits and programs, but they will also support scholarship programs that provide free and reduced admission and program fees to those in need.

Monday, July 26. Jaws at the Moon-Lite Drive-in Theater. Ages 13 & Up: In Steven Spielberg’s 1975 classic thriller Jaws, a peaceful beach community descends into chaos when an enormous great white shark attacks beach goers. Local police sheriff Martin Brody works with an oceanographer and a professional fisherman to hunt down the killer. Each car receives free admission and the first 100 cars receive complimentary popcorn. Rated PG. Gates open at 8:00 p.m.

Tuesday, July 27. 1:00 pm. What’s with Animals’ Tails? Ages 5-11: Why do certain animals have tails while others don’t? What do they use those tails for? 4-H Youth Educator Sara Haag will explain the various types of tails animals can have and how they function. FREE program happening at the West Branch Library Shelter. 

Wednesday, July 28. Kids’ Cooking at Deming Park. After school snacks! 

Wednesday, July 28. Early Explorers in the park with the Terre Haute Children’s Museum. Early Explorers is for ages 0-2 and their caregiver. Engage with your little explorer to nurture early learning through play in a welcoming environment full of socialization opportunities. 

Friday, July 30th. Kids’ Night Out at the Vigo County YMCA. Bring swimsuit, towel, and a smile!
