The Vigo County Public Library summer reading program is your summer bucket list! Where else can you go to earn prizes just for enjoying FREE, local fun with your family!?
This post is proudly brought to you by the Vigo County Public Library. We’re grateful for the library’s support, because their sponsorship helps to keep our site free to readers like you. You can help us thank the library by attending library events and by letting them know you saw their information on HauteHappenings.com! Find our favorite library “hidden gems” in this section of our website.
For our family, we have kids in the 0-5, 6-11, teeen, and adult category. Here are a few highlights we see on the app for our family and yours!
Sign up and receive a free book!
When you sign up for the Summer Reading Program, your kids can automatically come in and choose a free book (to keep) at the library!
Log your reading hours and complete online challenges to win prizes.
Children ages 0-11 will need to complete five hours of reading, while teens and adults require fifteen hours of reading to receive their first prize.
Younger kids will be excited to see options for pizza and swimming!
Attend in-person events! For example, on June 18th, parrrrrrrrty like a pirate. Climb aboard an inflatable pirate ship, hunt for treasure along the forbidden shorelines, and prove you’re a true pirate with a temporary tattoo! Get the whole family involved with games and grub fit for you and your crew.
Pick up a kit and enjoy the library experience at home. Kit registration usually begins at the first of the month. In July, there is a “Baby Shark” early literacy kit, a “quilling” eco-kit, a “Coral Reefs” make and take, and a koi fish paint by numbers!
Find events for adults and teens. The summer reading program isn’t just for little ones! Adults can sign up to read and for in-person events like movie showings!
Adventure in the community with the reading program “challenges.
Hungry to learn more about the ocean? Access Video on Demand for FREE with your library card! Documentaries, films, movies, childhood favorite shows!
