Read to Rover, Watch a FREE Drive-In Movie, and Sing Holiday Karaoke! Find Your Fun this Season at the Vigo County Public Library!

Rachael | November 18, 2019 | Featured, Vigo County Public Library | No Comments

This post is proudly brought to you by the Vigo County Public Library. We’re grateful that the library chose to spend part of its advertising budget with Haute Happenings. These community partners help to keep our site free to readers like you. You can help us thank them for their support by attending these great events!

As I was virtually thumbing through the Vigo County Public Library’s 2019 holiday event guide, I am once again blown away by all of the good things our community has to offer! I want to attend everything the library has planned!

Holiday Events at the Vigo County Public Library

Feeling short on cash with the holiday shopping season? Most of the library’s event opportunities are absolutely free to attend!

Let’s highlight a few fan favorites!

On December 5 from 4-5pm, head to the west branch of the library for Terre Haute Rocks: Holiday Edition.

Spread joy this holiday season with Terre Haute Rocks, a local group of enthusiastic rock painters who connect art and creativity with community. Participants will paint a rock of their own, then hide it for someone else to find. The participation guidelines for the Terre Haute Rocks project will be explained so you can continue to extend happiness to the community. Supplies will be provided!
On December 6 and 7th, the Miracle continues! What would the holidays in the Haute be without Miracle on 7th Street? The Vigo County Public Library is participating in the beloved Miracle tradition by inviting your family to create a huge gingerbread house with extra large Lincoln Logs, make Megatile trees, launch snowballs, and help Spheros® pull a sleigh on Friday, December 6. On December 7 come to the library for their Winter Workshop, create handmade gifts including greeting cards using the Cricut and LED lights, ornaments for loved ones, and simple gifts for teachers, coaches, and other special people in your life. Gifts are free of charge! Supplies will be provided!
Shop one of the largest book/media sales of the year during the Friends of the Library Annual Holiday Book Sale! Thousands of items will be available, including books with an average price of $1.00, gift items, DVDs, CDs, magazines, and more. The Saturday, Sunday, and Monday sales are open to the public. The Friday evening sale is open to Friends members only. Not a member? Join at the Library or online at www.friendsofthevigolibrary.org/join. Individual memberships are $5.00. To be sure you don’t miss out, mark your calendar for Friday, December 6 through Monday, December 9. On Monday, everything will be 50% off!
All aboard! On Sunday, December 15 head to the Moon Lite Drive-In for a FREE showing of The Polar Express! Wear your pajamas and cozy up in the car as a family to watch The Polar Express to get into the holiday spirit. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. and the film starts at 6:00 p.m. Each car receives free admission and a complimentary popcorn.
Sit! Stay! Read a book! On December 19,  therapy dogs from Love on a Leash will provide a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere in which kids of any reading level can practice their reading skills. Bring your favorite reading material or choose from books and magazines at the Library. Call 812.235.2121 to reserve a time slot.
Get ready for holiday karaoke! On December 20, grab your microphones and get ready to rock out for the holidays at West. Celebrate the sounds of the season, sing your heart out, and enjoy refreshments!
What would the holidays at the library be without special mention of their holiday storytimes? Story time at the library is a great destination on days when kids are out of school, the cousins are in town, or you want to add something special to your holiday countdown calendar!
These highlights are merely a taste, a preview, a tease of all the fun happening this season at the Vigo County Public Library. For the full scoop, head on over to their digital event guide for the full scoop!
