Top 7 Things to Do for a Girls’ Night Out in Terre Haute and the Wabash Valley

The kids are getting on your last nerve and you need an escape, but don’t have the time or money for a trip to a faraway land. Gather up your girlfriends, mom, & sister, because we’ve put together 7 things you can do for a girls’ night out that will take you away from the stress, just long enough so you’ll still remember who’s waiting for you back at home!

Dinner at Harry & Bud’s European Cuisine

It’s a little bit of a secret, but there is a restaurant located on 25th street in Terre Haute where you can have the most amazing meal and make some of the best memories with friends. Harry & Bud’s opened in 1993 as a mix between a Mom & Pop restaurant and a Greenwich Village hangout.  There is no signage, just a big globe light outside by the front door. If the light’s on, they’re open! Harry & Bud’s is on our bucket list of establishments to experience in Terre Haute and we thought we should share it.  Filled with mismatched tables and chairs, the atmosphere of the restaurant is very relaxed and cozy. The menu changes depending on what ingredients they have on hand and they like to serve a lot of food, so come hungry and be prepared to take home leftovers. This is not a fast casual restaurant, they like to take their time & provide an excellent meal. It makes the perfect spot to catch up with friends or family and spend the evening over wine and a memorable meal. So grab a group of friends, call and make a reservation, & don’t forget to bring your own alcohol and drinks (it’s BYOB)!

Cake & Cocktails at The Cake Bake Shop

The Cake Bake Shop near Indianapolis in Broadripple Village is a fairytale destination that involves champagne and cake. The perfect place to celebrate any occasion, this shop is open 7 days a week and is booked up months in advance.  They offer a food menu as well as an extensive list of sweets and drinks. Celebrities like Oprah and Matt Damon are raving about their three layered french cakes, so you know it’s good. Try the Raspberry Champagne cake, It’s by far one of my favorites. The shop is opening its second location this fall in Carmel, so stop making excuses and book a reservation.

Trivia Night at WaterTower Estates

WaterTower Estates is located just off of 41 on Springhill Drive. Originally built in 1921 and renovated and opened in 2016, the winery has been a fantastic addition to the local community. Every Wednesday evening WaterTower Estates hosts the most fun trivia night you can imagine.  Wine sales are encouraged (it helps with your total score), food can be brought it for all to share, & laughs are had for all. The theme of the trivia night is usually announced the week before, so it gives you some time to brush up on your skills. In the past they have held trivia nights for Friends, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,Parks & Recs, Marvel Movies, & Star Wars just to name a few.   The questions are not easy, so prepare to be defeated even if you really know your stuff! Trivia nights run from 6-8pm every Wednesday. Read more about trivia night at WaterTower Estates on Always Take the Scenic Route.

Monthly Beer Pairing Dinner at Stables Steakhouse

Every month Stables Steakhouse in Terre Haute hosts a craft beer pairing dinner. Each month they chose a different brewery to work with and develop 5 courses based off of 5 beers. The crowd is a mix of young and old, and it’s a great way to make new friends or network with others. The beer pours are huge and the meal is hearty and delicious, so for the price of $65 it is well worth it.  We’ve been attending the dinners for the past year and a half and we love every minute of it. The dinners fall on a Wednesday so don’t overdrink or you won’t make it into work on Thursday. Stables posts their dinners through their Facebook page and tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite.

Catch a Movie at Moonlite Drive-In

Terre Haute used to be home to many drive-in theaters and they are currently making a comeback. Moonlite Drive-In is opening up in September 2018 and would make a perfect night out with the girlfriends.  Borrow your man’s truck, fill it with blankets & pillows, grab some bottles of wine and pack a picnic.  It’s bound to make the perfect girls’ night out or date night spot. I think the best time to go is in the fall when all the classic scary movies are playing and the weather is perfect to enjoy a double feature under the stars!

Johnny & Junes Concert Venue

This next location requires a bit more travel than our local spots.  If you want to turn your “girls’ night” into a girl’s weekend, Johnny & June’s is perfect for your next getaway.  Johnny & June’s is a reception hall and entertainment venue located 2 hours away in Flora, Illinois.  Their vintage and industrial aesthetic fits perfectly into the small town setting. The venue is only open to the public when they hold one of their beloved concerts.  They are known for bringing in some big names and their reputation for being gracious hosts does not go unnoticed. They’ve hosted A Thousand Horses, The Steel Woods, and Ben Haggard just to name a few. Check out their events page to plan your next trip to the cutest music venue in Illinois. Classes + Workshops at Olive Tree Marketplace

The small town full of giant things, Casey, is home to the most adorable farmhouse decor store. Olive Tree Marketplace is sitting next to the world’s largest mailbox in Casey, Illinois.  The store just opened in May of this year and sells home decor, unique finds, & antique style furniture. The shop also offers some great classes & workshops all year round that are perfect for a girls day/night out.  They’ve currently got a repurposed shutter class scheduled along with a dresser do-over workshop & a make-your-own chalkboard class.
