Things to Do in November in the Terre Haute Area

As soon as November hits, the world goes crazy for Christmas.  If you’re planning a winter holiday or Christmas event or activity, send your info! We can’t promote what we don’t know. Basic submission is free!  Add your information via our holiday event submission form. 

In our November calendar, you may see a few holiday events sprinkled in, but most will be found in our 2024 Holiday Guide! (Coming soon!)

November 23-30 (except Thursday the 28th). Zorah Shrine Feztival of Trees. Join for the Feztival of Trees, where you can walk through a magical forest of over 90 beautifully decorated trees, donated by local businesses and organizations. Enter to win a fully decorated tree and all the gifts surrounding it in our raffle! Enjoy free refreshments and snacks, thanks to our sponsors Duke Energy and Pepsi. There will also be free photos with Santa, cookie decorating, ornament-making, and holiday coloring sheets for the little ones!

Wednesday, November 27. Perler Beads for Teens with the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 12–18: Create pixel-style art with Perler Beads, colorful beads that fuse together when heated with an iron.

Thursday, November 28. Thanksgiving JAM

Thursday, November 28. Terre Haute Turkey Trot. Come run, walk, and feed the hungry at the Terre Haute Turkey Trot!

Friday, November 29. PARADE, Christmas fireworks, and pictures with Santa in BRAZIL. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served at the pool concession stand. 

Friday, November 29 and Saturday, November 30. Bridgeton Country Christmas in Parke County, Indiana. Join us in Bridgeton for our Christmas celebration with unique gifts, handmade crafts, original artwork, decorations, lights, live music, food and fun. Santa will be in the 1822 Log Cabin 1-3 p.m. both Saturdays and Sundays. Vendors and shops open and full of gifts. Two big 3-day weekends of fun and festivities.

Saturday, November 30. Maker’s Studio 3-Year Anniversary Party. Cookies, festive drinks, and light snacks. 

Saturday, November 30. 5th Annual Hometown Christmas in BRAZIL with shopping, tree lighting, and scavenger hunt! The Clay County Chamber of Commerce and Brazil Main Street invite you to the 5th Annual Hometown Christmas! Local businesses and vendors all across Clay County will be open with special activities. A Scavenger Hunt involving stops at participating businesses will result in BIG prizes. At the end of the day, a Community Christmas Tree Lighting will take place at 5:30pm at City Hall. Scavenger Hunt winners will be announced during the lighting. Free Train Rides courtesy of Emmert Realty. Free Hot Chocolate courtesy of The Farm & Co. Santa arrives at 4pm.Meet the reindeer at The Laundry Station!

WVC Alpaca 2024

Saturday, November 30. White Violet Center Alpacas and Friends Open Barn. Spend a few hours out on our farm where Farmer Tara will introduce you to our alpacas and some of our favorite chickens! Don’t stay cooped up in the house after the holiday. Our Open Barn will bring fun and delight to the whole family, and it may even be educational too. Don’t forget to dress for the weather! Boots or old shoes are recommended to wear in the barnyard. Meet at the White Violet Farm Store. The cost is $7 per person and acts as a donation for the continued care and support of our alpacas, chickens, and the White Violet Center.

Saturday, November 30. Christmas in Paris. Cookies and canvas, sidewalk chalk lions and leos, letters to Santa, breakfast with Santa, lunch with Santa, pictures with Santa, storytime with Mrs. Claus, dinner with Santa, free movie (The Polar Express), festival of trees, touch a truck, family yard games, scavenger hunt, kids temporary tattoos, lights of the tree, and lighted Christmas Parade.

Friday, November 1. Harry’s Monsters–Sculpture Reveal. Mark your calendars for Friday November 1st at 4:30PM- the grand reveal of Harry’s Monsters will happen at the BRAND NEW Vigo County Public Library in 12 Points!! Join us for monster cookies from Bites and Blessings, hot chocolate and then explore the new library.

Friday, November 1. Fairy Tale Rescues at the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 3-5: Can your budding engineer help the Three Little Pigs build a wolf-proof house or find a troll-free way for the Billy Goats Gruff to cross the river? At Fairy Tale Rescues, storytime comes alive when your child designs creative new solutions to the problems their favorite characters face in classic fables!  

Friday, November 1, 8, and 15. Music Makers Storytime at the WEST Branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 2–5: Whether you’re looking to bond with your little one, meet new friends, or prepare for their first day at Kindergarten, you can capture your child’s imagination at Music Makers Storytime. At Music Makers Storytime, your child won’t be able to sit still as they dance to music, move with interactive books, play with scarves, egg shakers, and more.

Saturday, November 2. How do animals prepare for winter? Experience blubber gloves and see how animals survive in the most frigid of places! Meet the animals of Moonglade Animal Adventures and learn what they’ll be up to this winter! Discover how bees and butterflies manage the cold! Included with admission or membership at the Terre Haute Children’s Museum. 

Saturday, November 2. 3rd Annual YMCA Inspiration Gala. Keynote Speaker Coach Bob Warn with Bruce Rosselli and Kevin Hoolehan talking Terre Haute baseball history, Live Auction, Silent Auction, with dinner and a night of fun!

Saturday, November 2. Dance and Drum with the Northview Marching Knights. Join NMK for an afternoon of drumming & dance! This clinic is open to all students Grades K-5. The performance is open to the public and begins at 4:00pm and concludes with NMK performing this year’s show

Saturday, November 2. Holiday Bazaar at Maple Avenue United Methodist Church. Silent auction, sweets and treats, unique crafts, holiday items, collectables. 

Saturday, November 2. Friends of the Library Book Sale. Shop for books, DVDs, CDs, and more at the Friends of the Library Book Sale. Thousands of items will be available at low prices, from current bestsellers to your favorite classics.

Saturday, November 2. Messy Munchkins at the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 0-7: Develop your child’s observational and fine motor skills and encourage their creativity at the Messy Munchkins sensory playtime! Let your child dig through the sensory bins to discover new sensations, allow your infant or toddler to play in the exploratory area, and help them create their own DIY sensory bag.

Saturday, November 2. Kids and Adults are welcome to come and paint an adorable Christmas Llama with us at the Vigo County 4-H Alpaca and Llama Club Fundraiser on November 2nd from 2-4pm! This canvas is open for kids ages 6+. Everyone who purchases a ticket will receive a lightly traced llama on a 11×14 canvas that they will follow along and paint with instructor. With every sign up $10 will go to the fundraiser to help pay for a new barn.

Saturday, November 2. Hollywood Glam Adult Prom. The social event of the year! Get red carpet ready and dance the night away! Sunday, November 3. Rose Drama Club: You Can’t Take It with You. You Can’t Take It with You tells the story of Tony Kirby, the son of a Wall Street banker, who falls in love with Alice Sycamore from an eccentric family. The couple fear that their different backgrounds will make marriage impossible, but decide to plan a dinner at the Sycamores’ home to see if they are wrong. However, when Tony brings his family on the wrong night, a series of disastrous and hilarious events occur. 

Monday, November 4. Teen Connections at the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 12–18: Hang out with friends, explore new hobbies, and create something you’ll love at Teen Connections. A variety of activities will be available for you and your friends to choose from, including games and crafts, and you can take your completed project home!

Monday, November 4.Coffee and Crosswords at the NEW 12 Points branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Sharpen your pencil and your mind at Coffee & Crosswords! Spend an hour relaxing with crosswords or word searches while you sip on coffee and chat with other cruciverbalists—a fifteen letter word for people who enjoy crosswords. Do you not have the time to stay? Stop by the 12 Points Library and pick up a crossword puzzle to take home!

Tuesday, November 5. Euchre Bustle at the NEW 12 points branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Can your team win the most tricks? Or are you going to go alone in this classic card game? Bring your partner and square off against other Euchre enthusiasts while enjoying light snacks. Other card games will be available in the event that there are not four players. 

Tuesday, November 5. Crafting Creativity at the NEW 12 Points Branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 1–5: Every month, Crafting Creativity will introduce your child to a new method of creative expression. Each process-based project will encourage them to develop fine motor skills, explore their artistic side, and build their confidence!

Wednesday, November 6. Lego Lab at the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 6–11: Challenge your child’s construction skills, teamwork abilities, and creativity at Lego® Lab! Your child can attempt the monthly challenge or build their own designs. At the end of the evening, spend a few minutes touring everyone’s designs and learn how others solved problems in their own builds. Parents and caregivers with children under 9 should assist with building.

Wednesday, November 6 and 13. Preschool storytime at the NEW 12 Points Branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 3–5: Get your preschooler ready for the next big step in their education journey. At Preschool Storytime, your child can practice their listening skills, develop their vocabulary, improve their motor skills with songs, dance, stories, and more.

Wednesday, November 6. Decks, Dice, and Dominoes at the WEST branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Challenge friends and fellow enthusiasts to card, board, and tile games at Decks, Dice & Dominoes! Whether you’re a cunning tactician, a master bluffer, or a secret grandmaster, you can indulge in timeless traditional games like Euchre, chess, or dominoes, or discover new classics, including Settlers of Catan, Carcassonne, or Kingdomino!

Wednesday, November 6. Haute Create: Bookbinding Sewing Signatures. Ages 15 & Up: Continue your bookbinding journey by creating the basis for any book: signatures! At Bookbinding: Sewing Signatures, you’ll learn how to properly fold and stitch your typeset sheets together or practice using blank pages.

USHERS NEEDED for Educating Rita! 

Community Theatre is looking for volunteers to assist with ushering for our first Oakley production of the season, Educating Rita.

▪️ Duties include validating tickets, seating patrons, and selling concessions.

Thursday, November 7. MagiKids at the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 8–18: Start your child on the journey to becoming a powerful wizard with Magic: The Gathering! MagiKids is designed to introduce young players to the concepts of Magic: The Gathering, a turn-based trading card game. MagiKids encourages participants to sort and build their own custom deck of spells, creatures, and artifacts. MagiKids challenges players to use their critical thinking skills to overcome the pitfalls of random chance as they play against others. 

Thursday, November 7. Silent Era Reading Club at the NEW 12 Points branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Socialize with other readers, discuss your favorite books and genres with fellow enthusiasts, or enjoy some quiet reading time at the Silent Era Reading Club. Bring your own book—or check one out from the 12 Points Library to enjoy!

Thursday, November 7. Libratory at the WEST Branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 6–11: Do you have a budding artist or a mad scientist whose creativity is waiting to be unleashed? Stop by the Libratory and get ready to experiment! Libratory takes ideas from some of your children’s favorite stories and turns them into concepts that they can experience hands-on. Your child might program a robot, help create and implement a plan to harvest rainwater for West Branch Library’s garden, or create an artistic masterpiece! Each session is a chance to engineer, create, and play. Some projects may take place over multiple sessions. 

Friday, November 8. Curious Kids: Dino Excavation at the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 7–12: Your child can become a junior archeologist at Curious Kids! Learn how to unearth dinosaurs from hardened mud, ice, and baking soda eggs using brushes, picks, and vinegar.

Friday, November 8-Sunday, November 10th. Educating Rita at Community Theatre of Terre Haute. Frank is a tutor of English in his fifties whose disillusioned outlook on life drives him to drink and bury himself in his books. Enter Rita, a forthright 26 year-old hairdresser who is eager to learn. After weeks of cajoling, Rita slowly wins over the very hesitant Frank with her innate insight and refusal to accept no for an answer. Their relationship as teacher and student blossoms, ultimately giving Frank a new sense of self and Rita the knowledge she so craves. Rated PG-13.

Saturday, November 9. The Interesting Development of Indiana an U.S. Counties. If you are a researcher, genealogist or just love geography and history, this is a program that you do not want to miss. It will intrigue the listener to hear of many unknown facts regarding counties within the U.S., specifically, here in Indiana. County and equivalent development and their history can be so different. Knowing boundaries and county changes are, also, helpful to researchers.

Saturday, November 9. Fall Festival of Writers at the Vigo County Public Library. Mingle with Vigo County’s talented local authors at the Fall Festival of Writers! Meet more than a dozen published writers whose works span genres from slice-of-life to historical non-fiction while you shop for unique gifts for the book lovers on your holiday list. Books will be available for purchase. 

Monday, November 11. Veterans Day Parade. Our local Veterans Day Parade goes down Wabash Avenue in Terre Haute. It ends at VFW Post 972 where there is a ceremony honoring our Veterans. 

Tuesday, November 12. Teen Connections at the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 12–18: Hang out with friends, explore new hobbies, and create something you’ll love at Teen Connections. A variety of activities will be available for you and your friends to choose from, including games and crafts, and you can take your completed project home!

Tuesday, November 12. L’heure du conte: Bilingual Story Time in French & English at the NEW 12 Points branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 3–5: Parles-vous français? You and your little one will enjoy exploring a new language at L’heure du Conte! Learn about French culture and language through songs, nursery rhymes, books, games, activities, and stories.

Wednesday, November 13. Amazing Race: Library Edition. Ages 8–12: It’s a tournament of skill, knowledge, and speed at The Amazing Race: Library Edition. Your child and their teammates will work together to save animals from the Danger Zone, identify items by scent, and more as they complete activity stations, earn points, and race to the finish line.

Thursday, November 14. Mattoon Lightworks 2024 Walk Thru. Usher in the holiday season with the annual Mattoon Lightworks WALK THRU. This free, one night only event welcomes everyone to walk thru the Lightworks and enjoy a new perspective on the twinkling lights in Peterson Park in MATTOON, IL.

Thursday, November 14. History Walk in 12 Points. Ages 7 & Up: Join Vigo County Historian Suzy Dunning for a guided tour of the 12 Points Historic District’s notable landmarks, past business highlights, and current businesses that enliven the area. Attendees will meet outside the 12 Points Library. Please wear appropriate clothing and shoes for the weather. Sidewalks in the area may be uneven. Refreshments will be available at the 12 Points Library after the tour.

 Thursday, November 14. Art Zone at the WEST Branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 12–19: Let your creative side go wild at Art Zone! In every session, you will discover new methods of creating art and take home a unique masterpiece. Experiment with gel plate printing, abstract collage self-portraits, paper marbling, alcohol ink art, and more!

Saturday, November 16. Mario Kart Tournament at the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 12 & up: Be the first past the finish line at the Teen Mario Kart Tournament! Sixteen registered racers will compete against each other. Earn the Winner’s Cup for your track, and advance to the next bracket until two champions are left to race for the grand prize. Will you stand in the winner’s circle or be knocked out by a blue shell? Non-registered viewers are welcome to attend and cheer on their favorite race.

Saturday, November 16. Sword Fighting Demo on the lawn of the Vigo County Public Library. All ages: Don’t miss this exciting demonstration as Vigo County Public Library’s own David Kite, Special Collections Manager, showcases his sword fighting skills! Step outside and watch as he brings history to life with an impressive display of technique and mastery. Whether you’re a fan of martial arts or just curious, this is a performance you won’t want to miss!

Saturday, November 16. Fantasy Mapmaking at the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 12 & Up: Build your own world from the ground up at Fantasy Mapmaking. Use paper and rice to create your land masses and coastlines, then add towns, cities, forests, and more to make a custom map you can use for your next gaming session, for writing inspiration, or for a piece of wall art. 

Saturday, November 16. First Christian Church in BRAZIL presents: Crusader’s Christmas Market. Come out and enjoy a day of shopping at First Christian Church to benefit the Cornerstone Christian Academy Crusaders. Local vendors are set-up with a variety of items such as boutique clothing, decor, skincare, hand-crafted items, and more. 

Saturday, November 16. Wildflower Christmas Market. Kickoff the Christmas season with shopping from over 100+ vendors, amazing food trucks like Hens and Chicks, Taco Luv, Chum Chariot and more! Monday, November 18 and 19. Mystery Theatre Auditions. This comedic mystery is sure to keep ‘em laughing!

November 16, 17, 23, 24, 29, and 30. All aboard the Reindeer Ride Express! Experience a magical 75-minute journey through holiday scenes, sing Christmas carols, sip hot cocoa, and catch a glimpse of Santa’s workshop! Friday, November 22. Curious Kids: Build a Robotic Raptor Arm at the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 7–12: It’s DINOvember—and your child can celebrate by learning to build their very own articulated, wearable raptor arm using simple household items while at Curious Kids!

Saturday, November 23. Join the 4-H Holiday Craft Bazaar! Jewelry, clothing, decor, woodworking, artwork, and more. All proceeds go to the Vigo County 4-H Council Scholarship Fund. 

Saturday, November 23. Collett Park Christmas Craft Walk. Please mark your calendars for this annual event  to visit homes throughout this historic district that will be filled with unique gifts of art, baskets, crafts, jewelry, wearable goods, and specialty foods. Admission is free!

Saturday, November 23. Jolly Market with Jolly Pines Tree Farm. Imagine Christmas music, fire, food, Christmas trees, Handmade wreaths, Greenery, Hot Cocoa, over 20 vendors with handmade items! If you want to get in the holiday spirit, this is the place to be!

Saturday, November 23. Elementary Dance Workshop with Honey Creek Middle School Dance Team.

Saturday, November 23. Read to Rover with the Vigo County Public Library.  All Ages: Share a book with a furry friend from Love on a Leash. These good-natured therapy dogs are eager to listen to your child practice reading aloud in a stress-free setting, complete with cuddles, belly rubs, and ear scratches!

Monday, November 25. Shut Up and Read Book Club at the WEST Branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Do you want to read but can’t seem to carve out time in your busy schedule? Then add the Shut Up & Read Book Club to your calendar! Every month, you can spend a few minutes discussing your current book with other avid readers and then sip on coffee or hot tea while you dedicate an hour to curling up with your book and working your way through your to-be-read pile.
