Things to Do in November in the Terre Haute Area

As soon as November hits, the world goes crazy for Christmas.  If you’re planning a winter holiday or Christmas event or activity, send your info! We can’t promote what we don’t know. Basic submission is free!  Add your information via our holiday event submission form. 

Thursday, November 24. Turkey Trot with Crossroads Events.

Thursday, November 24. Thanksgiving JAM at Davis Park Elementary. If you’ve never JAMed before: JAM is a dance fitness class that can be made as intense as you like! The choreography is set to popular music, and the gym is dark with party-lighting.

Starting November 25. Bridgeton Country Christmas. Unique art, gifts, crafts, decorations, live music, plenty of good food. Vendors and local shops open and full of gifts! Visit Santa in the 1822 Case Log Cabin from 1-3 pm. both Saturdays and Sundays. Fresh stone ground products available at the Bridgeton Mill. Bring the whole family out to Bridgeton for a day of festive fun!

Friday, November 25 and Saturday, November 26. Festival of Trees at Zorah Shrine Country Place. Zorah Shrine Presents, The Feztival of Tree’s, coming to Terre Haute November 19 -26. Come on down to enjoy kid friendly Christmas activities, photos with Santa, walk throughs of a Christmas themed wonderland and exciting raffles. The Feztival is a public event where local business and organizations can donate fully decorated artificial Christmas Trees to be displayed and raffled off by a ticket drawing.

The West Central Indiana Small Business Development Center has put together a guide to help you shop small and shop local this weekend and always.

In their 2022 shopping guide, you’ll find boutique apparel, handyman services, tasty treats, personalized gift baskets, furniture, fabric, coffee, tacos, and more! All of these ideas keep your money in our local community and help local entrepreneurs who have invested in our town.

Saturday, November 26. Meadows Holiday Vendor Bazaar. Over 80 vendors inside the atrium selling a variety of items! Come to get a unique Holiday gift. Park, then shop in the warmth of the atrium, grab some lunch from one of the many food options, and then shop some more. Santa will arrive by firetruck!

Come and visit with him (in our Flower Shed turned Toy Workshop) to take complimentary photos with your little ones. While you are here, take a Christmas ride through the countryside, snuggled with your loves and hot cocoa. Take a ride on Zipper the pony, enjoy a cup of Almost Home’s famous soup, a delicious meal from Freddy’s Catering, and a hot cocoa bar! Admission is $5 per vehicle.

Saturday, November 26. 3rd Annual Hometown Christmas in Clay County Indiana. The Clay County Chamber of Commerce and Brazil Main Street invite you to the 3rd Annual Hometown Christmas! Local businesses and vendors all across Clay County will be open with special activities. A Scavenger Hunt involving stops at participating businesses will result in BIG prizes. At the end of the day, a Community Christmas Tree Lighting will take place at 5:30pm at City Hall. Scavenger Hunt winners will be announced during the lighting.

Saturday, November 26. Holiday Open House with WaterTower Estates Winery. Complimentary wine samples and dessert. First 25 customers receive a free gift.

Saturday, November 26. Meet the Alpacas at the White Violet Center for Eco-Justice.Come out and meet our alpacas including the newest member of our herd, Hua Mei, born on Oct. 17. Farmer Tara will introduce you to our alpacas and explain why the Sisters of Providence have them here. This will be an up close and personal experience. Registration required. Space is limited.

Saturday, November 26. 12 Points Small Business Saturday Market. Come shop small in the Historic 12 Points District! 12 local makers and small businesses have teamed up to host a small business Saturday market!
You can hit your favorite 12 points small businesses and then swing by the market and shop from local artists, makers and boutiques! It’s a perfect way to kick start your holiday shopping!

Tuesday, November 29.Indiana State University Speaker Series: David Blight. David Blight, known for his multiple best-selling books about history, will be coming to ISU as part of the University Speaker Series on November 29th, 2022, at 7:00 pm in Tilson Auditorium. Blight is featured in many documentary films on American history on PBS, the BBC, and other networks. He wrote one of the chapters for the book, To Dream A World Anew: A History of the African American People, a companion volume for the opening of the National Museum of African American History and Culture. He writes frequently for the popular press, including the Atlantic, the New York Times, and many other journals. Blight was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2012. This event is free and open to the public. This event has been postponed.

Weekly Events in Terre Haute and the Wabash Valley

RECURRING NOVEMBER EVENTS:

  • Mondays. Pilgrim Science and Stories at the Vigo County Public Library.  Discover lesser-known facts about America’s early history with Kate Messner’s History Smashers: The Mayflower! You’ll receive your own copy of History Smashers: The Mayflower! to read along. Please plan to attend all four sessions.
  • Mondays. Tiny Tot Storytime. Ages 0–2: Introduce your infant or toddler to new books, experiences, and skills while you strengthen your bond with them at Tiny Tot Time! In this group setting, your child will interact with children their age, learn to listen to others as a librarian reads to them, and strengthen their hands through fingerplays, shakers, and scarves.
  • Mondays. November 7, 14, 21, or 28. Kids and Family Pottery with Deming Park Pottery. $20 per project.
  • Tuesdays. Art Start at the Swope. Art Start will restart on Tuesdays from 1-2pm. For children ages 3-5 accompanied by an adult.
  • Wednesdays. Wiggle worm storytime at the Vigo County Public Library. Start your toddler or preschooler on the path to a successful year in Kindergarten with Wiggle Worms. At Wiggle Worms, your child will build early learning skills through listening to, reading, and discussing stories; practicing the alphabet; and expanding their vocabulary. They will also develop fine motor skills by performing fingerplays and body movement-based activities while learning how to cooperate with others in a group setting.
  • Wednesdays on 11/2, 11/9, and 11/16. Girls of Excellence Mentorship Program with the Vigo County Public Library. Your child can develop strong life and leadership skills, prevent bullying, and become a positive role model with Girls of Excellence Mentoring. In each session, GEM will encourage girls to examine the complex issues they face through group discussion, bolster their self-esteem, and teach them how to set goals for themselves.
  • Fridays (except day after Thanksgiving). Ready to Read Storytime at the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 0–5: Whether you’re looking to bond with your little one, meet new friends, or prepare for their first day at Kindergarten, you can capture your child’s imagination at Ready to Read Storytime. At Ready to Read Storytime, your child will learn new words and sounds, practice good listening and social skills, and develop fine motor skills with music, dance, and songs.
  • Saturdays. Visit the Terre Haute INDOOR Farmers Market at The Meadows.
  • Saturdays. Visit the Terre Haute Farmers Market at The Meadows on November 5 and 19 for their winter market.

Thursday, November 3. Flights and brunch with author/book signing. Join author Jamie Ward at Corsair Café & Coffee on Thursday, November 3 from 11am – 1pm for coffee flights, brunch or lunch, and to chat about Indiana travel. Thursday, November 3. LEGO Lab with the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 6–11: Challenge your child’s construction skills, teamwork abilities, and creativity at Lego® Lab! Every month, your child can attempt the monthly challenge’s theme or build their own designs. At the end of the evening, spend a few minutes touring everyone’s designs and learn how others solved problems in their own builds. Your child’s design will be part of a month-long display in Youth Services.

Thursday, November 3. The Best We’ve Got–The Carl Erskine Story Viewing Event. Join us for an exclusive viewing of the documentary and education program celebrating the last of the Brooklyn Dodgers’ Boys of Summer, one of the great human-rights champions of our time.

Friday, November 4. Christmas Adult Paint Class at Makers Studio at 12 Points.

Friday, November 4. The Modern Gentlemen at Hatfield Hall. Individually, Landon Beard, Todd Fournier, and brothers Brian Brigham and Brandon Brigham were originally brought together by the legendary Frankie Valli. For well over a decade, they’ve wowed audiences all over the world with the music icon as The Four Seasons. During their long tenure with the hall of fame group, they developed their own identity. Valli heard something in them that he’d never found in any of the configurations of singers he’d worked with and gave his blessing to start their own group for the next generation.

Saturday, November 5. Hula in the Haute for the Gold. Learn about gold medalist Evan Austin with snacks, cookies to decorate, and more!

Saturday, November 5. YMCA Inspiration Gala. Join us for the YMCA Inspiration Gala on Saturday, November 5,2022, at the new Terre Haute Convention Center. Proceeds from the Gala will go towards scholarships for kids to attend before and after school care, summer camp and other various programs the YMCA offers. Keynote speaker Paralympic Gold Medal Swimmer Evan Austin will share inspiration for meeting life’s challenges. Together as a community, we can make a difference! Doors open at 5:30pm with open bar, silent auction, and raffles.

Saturday, November 5. Friends of the Library Book Sale. Shop for books, DVDs, CDs, and more at the Friends of the Library Book Sale. Thousands of items will be available at low prices, from current bestsellers to your favorite classics. Proceeds from your purchases will be used to fund Library programs and services you enjoy!

Saturday, November 5. Dances Around The World at Tilson Auditorium with the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra.

Saturday, November 5. Christmas Village Bazaar with Maple Avenue United Methodist Church. Vendors from the Wabash Valley will gather to sell their hand made crafts and home goods.

Saturday, November 5 and Sunday, November 6. Dinosaur Adventure at the Vigo County Fairgrounds. Indoor event with dinosaur rides, bounce houses, mini golf (activities subject to change), and more!

Monday, November 7. Mini Hovercrafts with the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 5 & Up: How does a hovercraft overcome friction, the force that causes objects to resist sliding against each other? Build your own miniature hovercraft from common household items and experiment with sailing it across different surfaces to learn how a cushion of air affects its movement.

Wednesday, November 9. Rose Music Ensembles fall concert. Join all of the Rose – Hulman Music Ensembles as they celebrate the 20th Anniversary of their home, Hatfield Hall! Featuring a wide variety of music genres and styles, you won’t want to miss this grand celebration of 20 years of music and song at Hatfield Hall! This event is FREE and open to the public!

Saturday, November 12. Son Plus Fun One at the Terre Haute Children’s Museum. Share an evening of adventure with your son! Light dinner, limo ride, science experiments, live animals, and professional photos!

Saturday, November 12. The Big Deal at The Swope. Needing some new art to spice up your collection? Join us for The Big Deal at the Swope, our first one since 2005! The Big Deal is an event where the 3rd floor of the Swope will consist of 100 or more works of art for sale for $99 each. Tuesday, November 15. Time Travelers: The Inn at the Women’s Department Club. Anchoring the corner of 6th and Oak in the Farrington’s Grove Historic District sits a structure of outstanding Italianate design. The grand house was built in 1868 by contractor Samuel T. Reese for Civil War officer, lawyer, and state legislator Col. Robert N. Hudson and his wife, Mary. From its impressive scale and broad overhanging eaves to its tall arched windows, the historic structure is among the most iconic houses in the neighborhood.

Tuesday, November 22. Busy Builders with Vigo County Public Library. Ages 0-12: From simple towers to intricate structures, you and your child can create anything you can imagine with Busy Builders. Playing with blocks in an open, social setting encourages your child to problem-solve, cooperate with others, and develop coordination and motor skills.
