Things to Do in November in the Terre Haute Area

As soon as November hits, the world goes crazy for Christmas. And while I’m not ready to put up the tree yet, I admit I’m excited about the December holidays! In fact, the top priority on my to-do list is to get our holiday guide ready for you. If you’re planning a Christmas event or activity, you need to send your info! We can’t promote what we don’t know. Basic submission is free!  Premium sponsors get ads in e-newsletters, social media shoutouts, and a headliner position on the pages they support! Add your info and find out more HERE!

With that said, there’s no reason to rush through November! In this calendar, we have 55 things to do in November!

WEEKLY EVENTS IN NOVEMBER

Mondays. 10:00 a.m. Tiny Tot Time at VCPL Main Branch. Bring your baby or toddler to the library for stories, songs, dance, and activities

Tuesdays. 9:30 a.m. Chick-fil-A Story Time. Activities and a story. Kids 12 and under can enjoy a free 4 count Chicken Mini. (Guest reader Rachael Brown from Haute Happenings on Nov 13th!)

Tuesdays. 1:00 p.m. Art Start at the Swope Art Museum. A fun introduction to art through books and a hands on art activity. It is geared towards ages 3-5 with an adult caregiver, but siblings are Welcome! No need to register, this event is free!

Wednesdays (except the 21st) 6:30 p.m. West Vigo Guitar Club at VCPL West Branch. Learn to play the guitar and better understand basic music concepts like melody, rhythm and chords with the West Vigo Guitar Club. No music experience is required, but space is limited. Registration Required.

Thursdays (except the 22nd) 6:00 p.m. Books Before Bedtime at VCPL Main Branch. Wear your pajamas for stories, songs, and crafts before bedtime! This event will vary each week from traditional story time, to art-based activities, to music-making, and everything in between!

Thursdays (except the 22nd). Toddler playgroup at Illiana Gymnastics. Ages 1-5. 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Older homeschool siblings are also welcome.  $5/child.

Thursdays (except the 22nd) 6:00 p.m. Distraction Attraction at VCPL Main Branch. Ages 6-11: Hang out with your friends at Distraction Attraction, an alternative to Books Before Bedtime that lets older children explore cool technology, games and activities.

Fridays (2, 9 and 16th only) 10:30 a.m. Ready to Read Storytime at VCPL West Branch. Ages 0-5: Sing along to music, move your bodies with egg shakers and scarves, hear stories and participate in crafts or playtime. Parents and caregivers are invited to participate with their children during this storytime.

Wed Nov 14. 10:00 a.m. Wiggle Worms Wednesdays at VCPL Main Branch. Ages 3-5: Bring your preschooler to the Library for interactive stories, songs, dancing, crafts and play.

Thurs Nov 15- Sat Nov 16. 7:00 p.m. The Sound of Music at Terre Haute South Vigo High School. 3 performances of this heart-warming classic Musical by Rodgers & Hammerstein. Tickets are $10.

Thurs Nov 15. 8:30 a.m. Chick-fil-A Senior Social Hour Bingo. Free Refillable Small Beverage for guests 65 and older participating.

Thurs Nov 15. 5:00 p.m. Chick-fil-A Family Bingo Night! All ages, families, and singles welcome!

Fri Nov 16. 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Learning Lab: Weather for Home-school children– Stormy Summer at Terre Haute Children’s Museum. Explore the different types of thunderstorms and how they become severe. Children K-4th grade. For members $10/session. For Non-members $15/session.

Fri Nov 16. Santa Arrival Parade at the Honey Creek Mall. Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive by parade, led by the Terre Haute South Marching Band!

Fri Nov 16- Sun Nov 18. Jurassic Quest – Indianapolis. Dinosaur Adventure for the whole family. The main dinosaur exhibit features ultra-realistic, life-size animatronic dinosaurs; Over 80 life-size dinosaurs in all. Tickets $18-$34.

Fri Nov 16- Sun Nov 18. Children’s Theatre of Terre Haute presents Disney’s High School Musical, Jr! Fri, Nov 16th at 7pm. Sat, Nov 17th at 7pm. and Sun, November 18th at 3pm. Tickets are $15 and available at the door or by calling 812-236-3193.

Fri Nov 16 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. National Adoption Month Celebration at Terre Haute Children’s Museum. Families can enjoy FREE admission with registration. Tickets are free, but required for each guest to attend.

Fri Nov 16. Reuse and Recycle at Kids’ Night Out at the Vigo County YMCA. This month KNO educates about the fun and importance of recycling! We ask all participants to please bring plastic bottles, toilet paper rolls, or kleenex boxes as the kids will try to make fun crafts or instruments with them.  Ages 18 months – 12 years are welcome to come to November’s Kids Night Out! The evening will feature a variety of fun games and activities, dancing, crafts, healthy snacks and more.

Please bring a new pair of socks (any color! any size!) for our friends and neighbors that might need a clean, dry pair of socks to keep their feet warm this winter. The socks will be given to local organizations that help others during the holidays.

Sat Nov 17. 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. 4-H Council Holiday Craft Bazaar at the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds. Over 90 vendors including: handmade crafts, jewelry, Pampered Chef, fall and Christmas décor, woodworking, and much more! $1 Admission (includes a door prize ticket) and children are free. Concessions available.

Sat Nov 17. 10:00 a.m. WVAS: Jr. Birder Patch Program at Dobbs Park. $2.00. Earn a cool patch after participating in this 2-3 hour program. Learn skills to be a better birder. Ages 7 and up. Call 812-877-1095 for questions or registration.

Sat Nov 17. 5:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. Parent’s Night Out at Eduplay. PNO is 5 hours of child care, pizza, crafts, and movie time. Take some time to enjoy an evening out with full confidence that your kiddos are in good hands. Must register and pre-pay. One child $20, Two children $35, Three children $50, Four children $60.

Sat Nov 17. 6:00 p.m. Brews For Shoes. Join the Terre Haute Women’s Club for our Fall 2018 fundraiser at The Red Barn at Sycamore Farm. Tickets $65.

Sun. Nov 18. Everyone welcome! Completely FREE Community Thanksgiving Dinner. Bring the whole family. Feel free to invite friends, family, and neighbors!

Mon Nov 19. 10:00 a.m. Nature Program for Preschoolers at Deming Park. Join us for an exciting program for preschool children. Children will have the chance to learn about animals and nature. Parents are required to stay with children. Open to ages 2-5 years old. Cost: $5.

Nov 19, 20, and 21. School is out. Y is in! Sign up for all day care for grades K-6 while school is on break! Kids will have the opportunity to play, craft, and have fun throughout the day. Snacks will be provided, please bring a sack lunch and change of clothes. Children are recommended to wear tennis shoes for a day filled with exercise!

Mon Nov 19 and Tuesday, November 20. Cooking Class at Asian Market. 7:00pm-9:00pm. $15 per person. Learn to make 3 delicious Asian dishes!

Thurs Nov 22. 9:00 a.m. Terre Haute Turkey Trot. Come run, walk, and feed the hungry at the Terre Haute Turkey Trot! A fun family friendly 5k race and 1 mile fun run near Downtown Terre Haute. Partial proceeds and all canned foods will be given to our local soup kitchens and food pantries so that they can help feed the hungry!

Thurs Nov 22. Wobble Before You Gobble. Add some JAM to more than just your rolls this year! Workout before you pig out, and go beast mode before you go feast mode.

Fri Nov 23. 7:00 p.m. Christmas Parade “Silver Bells” 25th Year Anniversary in Brazil. Christmas In The Park theme for the 2018 Parade is “Silver Bells!” Parade entry fee: $20.00 & $10 per each additional vehicle. Join us at the park afterwards for Fireworks in the park!

Fri Nov 23-Sat Nov 24. A Colonial Christmas in the Cabin at Edgar County Historical Society in Paris, IL. Come and enjoy some refreshments with a colonial family.

Tues Nov 27. 10:00 a.m.  Tot Time: Learning to Measure at Terre Haute Children’s Museum. Measure, mix and sort with Goldilocks and the Three bears practicing those basic math skills. Children ages 2-5 and their caregiver that includes story time, hands-on learning activities. Included with admission.  Registration required.

Tues Nov 27. 11:00 a.m. Mother Goose on the Loose at VCPL West branch.  Ages 0-5: Join Mother Goose for an interactive storytime with books, songs, rhymes and musical instruments.  You and your child will play together and develop early literacy skills.

Nov 27-Dec 2. Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas The Musical – Official in Indianapolis. The Musical features magnificent sets designed by John Lee Beatty and costumes designed by Robert Morgan, inspired by Dr. Seuss’ original book. Tickets $55+.

Wed Nov 28. Watch This! Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again at VCPL Main Branch. Set five years after the first film, this musical sequel begins with Sophie struggling to get everything ready for the reopening of her mother’s Hotel Bella Donna. Rated PG-13. Free.

Fri Nov 30. 10:00 a.m. Mother Goose on the Loose at Fresh Thyme Farmer’s Market  an interactive storytime with books, songs, rhymes and musical instruments.  You and your child will play together and develop early literacy skills. Breakfast bar is 10:00 – 10:30, storytime starts at 10:30.

Thurs Nov 1, Wed Nov 7 and 14. 5:00-7:30 p.m. Purdue Extension Strengthening Families Program. Youth 10-14 and their parent(s). Dinner Provided. No charge. Topics covered include: peer pressure resistance, reducing stress, finding our family values, better communication skills.

Fri Nov 2. 9:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. Learning Lab: Weather for Home-school children– Showery Spring at Terre Haute Children’s Museum. The museum team and a special weather expert will challenge you to explore the types and causes of precipitation.  Children K-4th grade. For members $10/session. For Non-members $15/session.

Fri Nov 2. Downtown First Friday. Delicious Downtown is the theme. The Terre Haute Children’s Museum will have a cow and her calf visiting, activities throughout the museum, and a special farm to table demonstration. Vigo County Public Library will have Food Science. Grab your safety goggles and be a food scientist. Explore the properties of food and conduct experiments, like color-changing milk, dancing worms and even building an edible DNA helix.

Sat Nov 3. 10:00 a.m. Mother Goose on the Loose at VCPL Main Branch. Ages 0-5: Join Mother Goose for an interactive storytime with books, songs, rhymes and musical instruments.  You and your child will play together and develop early literacy skills.

Sat Nov 3. 12:00p.m-2:00 p.m. Pumpkin Party at Exotic Feline Rescue Center. Have you ever seen a lion or tiger play with a pumpkin? Watch as each of our cats get their own meat-filled pumpkin for lunch.  What a treat!  This only happens once a year. $10 adults/$5 children 12 & under

Sat Nov 3. 2:00 p.m. Fall Festival at  Vigo County YMCA. Come out in your Halloween-best one more time! This free event will feature seasonal games with prizes throughout the afternoon. Families will be able to trick or treat inside the Y as well as participate in crafts led by volunteers.

Sat Nov 3. 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.  Craft & Vendor Fair. Start your Christmas shopping early to benefit the Providence Food Pantry. Shop with 30+ vendors who have unique and handmade items for your shopping pleasure.

Sat Nov 3. 7:30 p.m. Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra Freedom! Honoring Our Veterans. Soprano Donata Cucinotta joins the THSO as we pay tribute to those who have served and to those currently serving in our armed forces. Tickets Start at $17.

Sun Nov 4. 7:00 p.m. Wizard Fest Indy. A Wizard-themed party in Deluxe at Old National Centre where we transform into a magical castle and throw a huge dance party! Wizardfest is 18+ and you have to be 21+ to drink the buttery beer! Tickets $17.

Tues Nov 6. 6:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. 2018 Mid-Term Elections. 33 senate seats, all 435 seats in the House of Representatives, and 14 governorship’s will be up for re-election. Put it on your calendar now and be prepared to be an informed voter.

Tues Nov 6. 7:00 p.m. Teen Tuesday at Chick-fil-A.

Tues Nov 6. 7:30 p.m. Rose Ensembles Patriotic Concert. They perform patriotic selections to honor those who have served and those who continue to serve our country in every capacity. Thank you for your service and dedication! This is a FREE event.

Wed Nov 7. 6:00 p.m. Watch This! Ant-Man and the Wasp at VCPL Main Branch. Following the events of Captain America: Civil War, Scott Lang, a.k.a. Ant-Man, is recruited for a new mission by Dr. Hank Pym and Hope van Dyne. For this adventure he must team up with The Wasp as they uncover secrets from their past. Rated PG-13. Free.

Thurs Nov 8. 5:30 p.m. Harvesting Happiness. We celebrate the beauty of fall in the gorgeous Sycamore Winery. With entertainment from several Happiness Bag friends, great food, and even better company, you won’t want to miss this event. Tickets $50-$80.

Thurs Nov 8. 7:30 p.m. Double Dare Live in Indianapolis. A game show where contestants have to answer trivia questions and complete physical challenges. If they can’t, it can get messy-literally. There will be no shortage of slime soaking and pie plastering. Tickets $29.50 – $42.50.

Fri Nov 9-Sun Nov 11. Reindeer Mingle in Martinsville. An exclusive first look, up-close, and personal experience with a magical reindeer.  Professional photographs will capture posed and candid pictures of your experience. $160/family.

Sat Nov 10. 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Holiday Craft Bazaar at Wabash Activity Center. Vendor booth with unique handcrafted items. Great Christmas gifts or spruce up your Thanksgiving dinner table with handmade décor. Admission is free.

Sat Nov 10. Thankful for Families Fair. The purpose of this event is to bring awareness and support foster families in Indiana. A bounce house, face painting, balloons, food, bike donation, and more will be featured throughout the event.

Sat Nov 10. 10:30 a.m. Constellations: Stories in the Sky! at Dobbs Park. $1.00 fee. Please pre-register. How do you find the constellations and what are the stories behind them. Make a constellation board to use outside.

Sat Nov 10. 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.  Wabash Activity Center Fall Fest. This event is geared to show the community what a wonderful resource our facility is and what great classes and activities we have to offer. This is free to the public and we encourage you to come and bring a friend or two..

Sat Nov 10. 12:00 p.m. Brazil Says Thanks Festival 2018. A day of Food, Music and Comedy to honor our local veterans. Free and open to the public. Let’s show our veterans how Brazil says thanks!

Sat Nov 10. 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. Open Gym at Illiana Gymnastics Complex. Ages 5 and up. $10/child.

Sat Nov 10. 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. Second Saturday Studio at Swope Art Museum. Geometric and Colorful art inspired by Rachel Hellmann exhibition. Free. All ages welcome.

Sat Nov 10. 5:30 p.m. Union Health Foundation Gala in Oz.  This premier black-tie event brings together community and industry leaders and healthcare professionals to honor and pay tribute to those who have distinguished service to the Union Health community and the Wabash Valley.

Sat Nov 10. Maple Avenue UMC Christmas Bazaar. 

Sun Nov 11. 1:00 p.m. Paint & Canvas at Wabash Activity Center. we celebrate “One Nation Under God”. Instructed by Susan Edwards. Refreshments will be provided as well as all the supplies. Cost is $35.00 with $15.00 going to the center.

Sunday, November 11. Theater 7 Presents “This Side of Eternity.” This Side of Eternity: The Story of Kristallnacht examines the nature of evil itself, the real human beings behind genocide, and asks if it’s possible to resist in the face of insurmountable odds. It explores the subtle roots of evil that are in place long before destructive choices occur and speaks to many issues dominating our current national discourse. Clear answers are hard to find but the heart of this play – two men who long to keep their deep bond as external forces seek to destroy it – challenges us to keep looking.

Sun Nov 11. 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. Corks & Crafts at Water Tower Estates Winery. Join us for an afternoon of fun, crafting, and wine! Create this beautifully customized Christmas wreath while enjoying a glass of your favorite Water Tower wine! Tickets $55.

Tues Nov 13. 10:00 a.m. Tot Time: Let’s Build! at Terre Haute Children’s Museum. Build structures from different materials and test their strength.  Children ages 2-5 and their caregiver that includes story time, hands-on learning activities. Included with admission.  Registration required.

Tues Nov 13. 10:00 a.m. Exploration Creations at VCPL Main Branch.  In this family-oriented program for all ages, families will explore, create and have fun learning about science, art, history and other subjects. Free-play will also be available for younger children.

Tues Nov 13. 3:30 p.m. Watch This! West The Nightmare Before Christmas at VCPL West Branch. 25 years ago Jack the Pumpkin King first reigned terror upon the world with his bizarre vision of Christmas. Bridge the gap between Halloween and the winter holidays with this Tim Burton classic. Free.

Tues Nov 13. Teen Advisory Board at VCPL West Branch. TAB helps the library design events specifically for teens. TAB is a great way to express your opinions and make new friends all while serving the community.  All teens are invited to attend the monthly TAB meeting and snacks will be available!
