As soon as November hits, the world goes crazy for Christmas. While I’m not ready to put up the tree quite yet, I admit I’m excited about the December holidays! In fact, the top priority on my to-do list is to get our holiday guide ready for you. If you’re planning a winter holiday or Christmas event or activity, send your info! Weekly Events in Terre Haute and the Wabash Valley
Mondays 10:00 a.m. Tiny Tot Time at Vigo County Main Library. Ages 0 – 24 months: Bring your baby to the library for stories, songs, dance, and activities.
Mondays 1:00 p.m. Improve Your Performance: Leadership Skills at Vigo County Main Library. This six week course will teach you how to use the principles of great leaders to achieve success in almost every aspect of your daily life. An additional 2 to 4 hours of online classwork will be necessary each week. Registration Required.
Tuesdays. 1:00 p.m. Art Start at the Swope. Young artists are invited to experience this free art program. We will be reading a book and doing a related art project. For children ages three to five accompanied by an adult. Located at the Swope Education Center, enter from Ohio Street.
Tuesdays (except 26). 4:00 p.m. Talk it Out at Vigo County Public Library Main Library. Ages 11-15: Become a role model for your friends, your school, and your community. Together with Tante Robinson, founder and director of Girls of Excellence Mentoring, girls will discuss important topics that will improve their self-esteem, prevent bullying, and help them make better choices throughout their lives.
Tuesdays (except 5). 4:30 p.m. Maker Hour at Vigo County Public Library West Branch. Explore a different way to learn and play with Osmo®, a unique iPad app that blends the physical with the digital. Different activity every week.
Tuesdays. 6:00 p.m. Free Game Night at Pizza King. Try out some modern board games – Fun for all ages! A host from Robinwood Games will be on hand to help teach the games and answer questions.
Wednesdays. 10:00-11:00 a.m. Wiggle Worm Wednesdays at Vigo County Main Library. Ages 2-5: Bring your preschooler to the Library for interactive stories, songs, dancing, crafts and play!
Wednesdays (except 27). 6:30 p.m. West Vigo Guitar Club at Vigo County West Branch Library. Learn to play the guitar and better understand basic music concepts like melody, rhythm and chords with the West Vigo Guitar Club. No music experience is required, but space is limited. Registration Required.
Thursdays (except 28). 12:30-2:00 p.m.Bingo Bunch at Vigo County West Branch Library. Enjoy refreshments as you play traditional and non-traditional Bingo every week. Prizes will be offered to the first to call out, “Bingo!” All levels of experience welcome. Cards and number markers will be provided.
Thursdays (except 28). 3:00-6:00 p.m. After School Program at The Salvation Army. This program is designed to teach children life skills and character building virtues. Workshop include: pet care, nature/gardening, first aid, home safety, tool time and food prep. Cost $1/child/session. Open to kindergarten thru 6th grade. Reservations must be made in advance
Thursdays (except 28). 6:00 p.m. Books Before Bedtime at Vigo County Main Library. Bring your children ages 0-5 for this evening storytime. Wear your pajamas to the library for stories, songs, and crafts before bedtime! This event will vary each week from traditional story time, to art-based activities, to music-making, and everything in between!
Fridays (except 29). 10:30 a.m. Ready to Read Storytime at Vigo County Library West Branch. Ages 0-5: Sing along to music, move your bodies with egg shakers and scarves, hear stories and participate in crafts or playtime. Parents and caregivers are invited to participate with their children during this story time.
Sundays. 3:00 p.m. Smash Sundays at Full Moon Games. Venue Fee: $3.00. Top players will receive store credit based on attendance that can be used at Full Moon Games or Footers Pizza.
Sundays. 5:30 p.m. Free Community Dinner. Hosted by Supper at the Center. Sponsored by Highland-Church at the West Vigo Community Center. Everyone is welcome!

Fri Nov 1- Sun Nov 3. Rose Drama Club: Shakespeare’s The Tempest. A ship carrying Alonso King of Naples, his son Ferdinand, and Antonio the Duke of Milan is wrecked in a storm created under the magic control of Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan. Tickets $10-$15.
Fri Nov 1 and Sat Nov 2. Annual Chili Supper and Craft Fair at Memorial United Methodist Church. Come to Memorial on November 1st for the annual Chili Supper (4-7 pm). This year the Craft Fair will be a two day event on November 1st (4-7 pm) and November 2nd (8 am – 1 pm).
Fri Nov 1. 4:00 p.m. First Friday: The Very Hungry Caterpillar at Main Branch Vigo County Public Library. Stretch your wings and dive into the world of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. At the Terre Haute Children’s Museum, play with your food! Create a butterfly that would make author Eric Carle proud and follow in the steps of our hungry friend in our sensory walk. St. Mary of the Woods College science education students believe food is delicious but it can also be fun to play with! Stations will include Estimation Station, Sink or Float, The Taste Smell Connection, and Solid, Liquid, or Both? First Friday special admission is $5 for all ages 2 and up and includes these activities.
Fri Nov 1. 6:00 p.m. YMCA 20 Year Celebration Featuring War Radio hosted by Clay County YMCA. We are having a celebration at the Clay County Fairgrounds including food, a cash bar and the band War Radio! Tickets are just $10.
Sat Nov 2. and Sun Nov 3. Friends of the Library Monthly Book Sale at Main Branch. Shop from a selection of thousands of items: books, movies, music, and more. The average book price is just $1.00. Proceeds raised at the monthly book sales help provide funding for Library programs and services.
Sat Nov 2. 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Crafts and More Bazaar at St Mark United Church of Christ. Vendors of all types of homemade or handicraft goods! Breakfast, lunch and desserts will be available for purchase throughout the day with a variety of options.
Sat Nov 2. 9:00 a.m. First Indoor Market of the Season at Meadows! You’ll be able to shop for fresh, local produce, farm fresh meats and eggs, local honey and maple syrup, dried herbs and seasoning blends, homemade jams and jellies, and more.

Sun Nov 3 and Nov 10. 2:00 p.m. COA Volleyball Fall Clinics. Join us at COA volleyball for extra instruction in ball control, partner drills, and games/scrimmage/wash drills. Clinics are geared for ages 10-14. There is NO sign-up. Each girl simply shows up ready to play and pays for the session with $5.

Tues Nov 12. 10-11. Tot Time: Wiggle Worms. Inch worms, night crawlers, gummy worms??? Check out what makes these little worms wiggle. Tot Time is an interactive, educational program for children ages 2-5 and their caregiver that includes story time, hands-on learning activities, and an opportunity to explore museum exhibits afterwards. Caregiver participation is mandatory, and a caregiver/ child ratio of 1:3 is requires. Admission to museum included.
Tues Nov 12. 4:00 p.m. Christmas Musical Auditions at Maple Avenue United Methodist Church. Kids ages 8-14. All kids auditioning will be in the show, however the audition process will be for those who want either a solo or a speaking part. The musical will be performed on Christmas Eve at 7 PM. There is no fee to participate or see the performance!
Tues Nov 12. 6:00 p.m. Full Moon Gravel Ride at Griffin Bike Park. There will be two groups, an A Group (13-14 mph, moderate paced) and a B Group (9-10 mph social ride). These rides are no drop, but please join the group that fits your riding speed. We will also visit a couple of cemeteries.
Thurs Nov 14. 5:30 p.m. Basic Skills Cake Decorating Class – Swope Fundraiser at Baesler’s Market. Join us for a basic skills cake decorating class! During the two hour class you will learn how to: base ice a cake, make borders, write on a cake & make flowers and balloons. This is a class recommended for those 18+. Tickets start at $50.

Baby Explorer is for ages 0- 2 and their caregiver. Engage with your little explorer to nurture early learning through play in a welcoming environment full of socialization opportunities. Your child will learn to interact with you while also learning about our amazing world. Young women from DECA at North High School will be at the Terre Haute Children’s Museum to conduct a money management challenge. Visitors will be given some fake money to spend at some life stations around the museum…will you have enough to buy food, get a car, and take care of your pets?
Sun Nov 24. 1:00 p.m. Terre Haute Songwriters’ Circle. An opportunity to meet other songwriters, share original songs, and get feedback from the group. Bring a song on CD, phone, or play it live. Bring 10 lyric sheets if possible.

Our planet, Earth, provides us with much to be thankful for – water, air, beauty, materials we use to create things. While we give thanks for this, we also have to take care of it to be sure it is there in the future. Stop in to experiment with ways we can help take care of our Earth.

Thurs Nov 28. 8:00 a.m. Turkey Trot 5k at Clay County YMCA. Grab your friends and family and head out to the Y for a pre-turkey day run! The cost is $20 by November 18th, and $25 after.

Fri Nov 29. 7:00 p.m. Christmas Parade in Brazil. We hope to have at least 80 entries, from decorative floats, to the Northview High School Band, and many other creative ideas, all lit, and many with musical themes. The end of the parade features, who else but Santa Claus, direct from the North Pole! Free.
Sat Nov 30. 9:00 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Christmas At The Meadows. Vendor sale, festive music, kids activities, and cookie decorating. Santa will be arriving in on a firetruck at 12 Noon. The Christmas Tree lighting will be at 7:30 pm
