Shine Foster Family Resources

When your children outgrow their gently-used gear, clothing, and toys, Shine Foster Family Resources in Terre Haute is a non-profit organization that is ready and willing to take what you no longer need and offer it to families with children involved in DCS care!

In 2018, the foster clothing closet “Borrowed Hearts Region 8” (see our previous post for history) opened its doors in Terre Haute. It has moved a few times before landing at its NEW location in 2022: 1825 Jessica Dr.

These resources are available for FREE to ANY child with DCS involvement in Region 8 Clay, Parke, Sullivan, Vermilion, and Vigo counties; however they won’t turn away a qualified shopper regardless of where they live (even out of state)!

Please check the events section of their Shine Foster Family Resources facebook page or message for more information on days and times when donations are accepted.

They collect gently-used clothing for infants to teens in all sizes.

Gently-used luggage, diaper bags, and duffel bags are also helpful for creating new placement care bags and providing respectable luggage when kids move. No child should have to transport their possessions in a trash bag.

New items are welcome too! SHINE is excited to receive and distribute new socks and underwear, diapers (specifically size 5,6, and pull ups), wipes, body wash, shampoo, and hair products for all hair types. Prefer shopping online? SHINE has a wishlist!

SHINE is also in need of volunteers. If/when you make a donation, you might run into superstar volunteers like Rance and Sandy (pictured)!

As a foster family, we have been on the receiving end of your donations to SHINE many times.

We’ve picked up babies from the hospital and headed to the foster clothing closet for bottles, wipes, and formula.

We’ve found snow boots for preschoolers at the “store.”

We’ve helped “our” kids settle in at home with their families with your donated cribs and toddler beds.

Thank you for investing in this important community resource!
