13 Ways to Stay Active Over Break
|This post was sponsored by Boys & Girls Clubs of America as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central and all opinions expressed in my post are my own.
It wouldn’t be Thanksgiving break without too much food, lots of sitting around the table with family, and at least one fantastic nap.
But the downside to the classic Thanksgiving day fun is that it’s tempting to spend too much time on the couch instead of encouraging our kids to get up and stay active. With that in mind, we’ve decided to partner with Boys & Girls Clubs of America and their Triple Play program to bring you 13 active ideas to put to use over school break! Why? Because when school is out of session, it’s easy to break our healthy habits and routines (I’m looking at you, late bedtime!).
When I was a kid, I would hang out at the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and watch my brother play basketball. Now that I’m a parent, I’ve found that clubs offer a lot more of opportunities for families and kids!
One of the key initiatives from Boys & Girls Clubs of America is the “Triple Play” program. This program focuses on helping kids to create healthy habits for their mind, body, and soul. For the mind, members learn how to make smart food choices. For the body, members are encouraged to find creative ways to stay active. And for the soul, members learn how to respect themselves and others. If you click on over the to the Triple Play website, you can find a detailed (and free) guide to encouraging your kids to be healthy in all sorts of ways!
Local clubs (like the one in Terre Haute) are open during school breaks and provide free tutoring, meals, and snacks. Join the club to stay healthy and have fun!
This post has forced me to think carefully about how my own family spends our break time.
My husband’s family had the great idea to meet at a lake house in Cloverdale for our Thanksgiving meal. This is actually our second year there!
I see a repeat of last year’s chilly rowboat ride in my not-too-distant future.
