Daddy and the Dictionary

They say that reading to your children increases their vocabulary.

That was certainly true for us when our two-year-old asked to read THE DICTIONARY this morning.

How appropriate since this week we celebrated Read Across America Day!

Dictionary She picked up on “seahorse,” “palm tree,” and “steeple.”

But for some crazy reason, words like “schooner” and “spotted sandpiper” didn’t seem to stick. Maybe you have to be three to appreciate those things.

My daughter’s love of large and difficult books makes my English-major heart happy. If only I could take the credit! But all I did was throw the extra dictionary on her bookshelf and marry a guy that can make ANY book sound interesting.

What has your child done to make you laugh or smile today?
