This trail mix couldn’t be simpler. No, really! It’s my three-year-old’s job to put it together when we’re getting ready for a trip.
I’m almost embarrassed to share this as a chex mix “recipe.” However, since it’s so yummy (both adults and kids approve!), I decided to post because I’d hate for you to miss out!

In a big bowl stir together your favorite mix of the following ingredients:
- Pretzels
- Goldfish
- Chex cereal
- Cheerios
- Seeds (we’ve tried both sunflower kernels and pumpkin seeds)
- Raisins
- Peanuts and cashews (leave out for allergies)
- Sweet cereal (like Frosted Mini-Wheats). We like to use Peanut Butter Puffins. The sweetness is a nice contrast to the salty flavor of the other ingredients.
For flights, car trips, field trips, bike rides, stroller walks, or even play dates, the smallest snack baggies (like these) work perfectly. We also scoop some into our snack cups (like these) when we’re playing outside.
Of course you’ll want to leave out the nuts if you are sharing with kids who have allergies or maybe even in public places (like planes) where the nuts could affect those around you.
