Recently, the fine folks at Visit Hendricks County<\/a> invited our family to come visit and explore. Naturally, I eagerly accepted this\u00a0invitation. After all, I’ve driven through or near to these towns (Brownsburg, Danville, Plainfield, etc) more times than I can count, but I’ve\u00a0never considered these towns destinations in and of themselves. Usually, they’re skipped over in favor of Indy. Unless of course I need to get to Target. Then Plainfield is a viable destination in and of itself. Am I right?<\/p>\n

As it turns out, these cities make for great day trip destinations or overnight weekend trips,\u00a0and\u00a0I’m excited to\u00a0show you and your family why you should make plans to visit Hendricks County.<\/p>\n

Let’s start with the destination that was most exciting to me–Splash Island Waterpark!<\/p>\n

Splash Island Waterpark in Plainfield, Indiana\"Review<\/h3>\n

My girls love water, and we’ve been visiting nearby water parks since my girls were infants. As far as I know, the Splash Island Waterpark is the biggest and closest waterpark to Terre Haute. Have you been? Before our visit I had heard\u00a0that it’s great, but no one was\u00a0been able to give me an in-depth personal review. My hope is that\u00a0this post answers your questions and gives you an idea of what to expect.<\/p>\n

\"Splash<\/a><\/p>\n

For starters, the water park is huge. There are several free splash pads in the Indy area (and hopefully one day soon in Terre Haute!), but this is much bigger than a “splash pad.”<\/p>\n

The Caribbean Cove area is fun for kids of all ages. There are slides, hoses, fountains, and even a child-size\u00a0aqueduct.\u00a0\"Fun<\/a><\/p>\n

There’s also a lovely river with buckets that spill, fountains that spray, and tube rafts that put the “lazy” in “lazy river.”<\/p>\n

\"Lazy<\/a><\/p>\n

On the way out of town, my husband and I had a mini-fight that went like this:<\/p>\n

Me: You did grab\u00a0the puddle jumpers (life jackets), right?<\/p>\n

Husband: Uh, no. I forgot.<\/p>\n

Me: What? You said you’d get them!<\/p>\n

Husband: There was a lot going on. Somehow I just walked out the door without them.<\/p>\n

Me: How can I ever trust you if you can’t even remember the life jackets?<\/p>\n

Thankfully, there were plenty of life jackets available courtesy of Splash Island. (I believe most or all of them were labeled for 30 lbs and up.)\"Life<\/p>\n

And even though life guards are no substitute for parental supervision, we thought the lifeguards at Splash Island did a great job. We didn’t see a single life guard\u00a0lounging around, working on his or her tan. Instead, they were actively pacing and scanning the water for signs of trouble.<\/p>\n

Do you know what Splash Island doesn’t provide? Towels!\u00a0And, yes, we forgot those too. Thankfully (?), we didn’t remember in time to argue about it; the sun, heat, and random blanket from the backseat of our car dried us easily enough.<\/p>\n

For those with kiddos (or child-like adults) over 48 inches<\/strong>, there are water slides, lily pads, and diving boards.<\/p>\n

Also, although the indoor area is smaller (a pool, one slide, one splash pad\/small slide), the Plainfield aquatic center does offer options for year-round swimming! Click HERE to read more about the indoor facilities.<\/p>\n
