Did you sell Rice Krispies or brownies to boost sales? Were you saving the\u00a0money you earned for something big? What was the\u00a0name of the one generous\u00a0neighbor who you could\u00a0<em>always<\/em>\u00a0count on to buy from you no matter what you were selling?<\/p>\n<p>A child at his\/her\u00a0lemonade stand is a classic illustration of the American entrepreneurial, can-do spirit. It&#8217;s\u00a0often a child&#8217;s first chance\u00a0to experience\u00a0the basics of business. Concepts\u00a0like &#8220;marketing,&#8221; &#8220;profit,&#8221; and &#8220;product&#8221; become more than theories and vocab terms; they&#8217;re understandable ideas\u00a0that have real-life meaning to a child. And for many kids, a\u00a0lemonade stand gives them the confidence they need to launch many more entrepreneurial experiments.<\/p>\n<p>This year Haute Happenings is excited to partner with an awesome local organization that&#8217;s dedicated to teaching kids about business&#8211;Lemonade Day.* \u00a0The Terre Haute Lemonade Day team works year round to teach kids financial literacy, but the team&#8217;s main event is one day each summer that is dedicated to getting kids outside and manning their own lemonade stands.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-2100\" src=\"http:\/\/nateandrachael.com\/terrehaute\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/05\/Lemonade-Day-Lemon-Head.jpg\" alt=\"Lemonade Day in Terre Haute\" width=\"748\" height=\"499\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nateandrachael.com\/terrehaute\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/05\/Lemonade-Day-Lemon-Head.jpg 911w, https:\/\/nateandrachael.com\/terrehaute\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/05\/Lemonade-Day-Lemon-Head-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 748px) 100vw, 748px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s goal is to have 500 (FIVE HUNDRED!) kids (k-12) signed up to participate in Terre Haute\u00a0Lemonade Day!<\/p>\n<p>We can do that. 500 is a doable\u00a0goal for a city as big as Terre Haute. Last year they had 400 participants. Let&#8217;s get to 500 this year.<\/p>\n<p>This year, the coordinators have planned a special event to help get kids and families excited about Lemonade Day.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Kick-Off Event<\/h2>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">Sunday May 17 from\u00a01 p.m. to 3:30 p.m at the Terre Haute Children&#8217;s Museum<\/h3>\n<p>At the kick-off event,<strong> children can register for Lemonade Day, get their FREE backpacks (with workbooks that teach them about being an entrepreneur), enjoy\u00a0refreshments, and play at the museum.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The kick-off event (and\u00a0participation in\u00a0Lemonade Day) is<strong> completely free! <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If your kids would\u00a0like to hang around the museum and play after the event, that&#8217;s free too. (Parents will need to pay the reduced admission price of $5).<\/p>\n<p>If you can&#8217;t make it to the kick-off, you can also register online\u00a0by June 15, 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The kick-off event is more than just a fun party. It&#8217;s a chance to get your family excited about business and financial literacy.
