Boogie Boarding on Sand Dunes in New Zealand

This week I’m joining “Photo Friday” at Delicious Baby!

Sand Boarding in New Zealand

Sand boarding.Β Have you heard of it? It’s what you do when you huff and puff your way up ridiculously tall sand dunes and then scream like a little girl as you fly down on a tiny boogie board.

I had sand in places I didn’t know existed after this little joyride.

Before you add this to your travel bucket list, I should mention that (like a lot of extreme sports), at leastΒ one personΒ has died doing this.

We went sand boarding during our five-month adventure in New Zealand. It was after we finished a ten-day bike trip and before I got food poisoning from not letting my chicken cook long enough on a hot lava rock.

And even though sand boarding was in the Nate and Rachael Pre-Kid Era, I would still do it again today.

I assume you can sand board in other places besides New Zealand. (Right?) Have you been? Would you want to go?

  1. It was fun reading your ABCs! I am sure every parent has a story about their child without pants. Seriously, we have a rule at my house now — you must be fully dressed before walking out the door. And the sand boarding looks amazing! I love reading about your adventures. πŸ™‚

    1. Before I was a parent, I never would have dreamed you’d need such a rule. Now I’m like, “Hey, that’s brilliant! We need that at our house, too!” Thanks for reading and commenting, Mary Catherine! πŸ™‚

    1. Awww—-“Mama, come back!” How cute is that? How do you ever, ever leave his room?? It sounds like your little engineer has mastered the art of pulling on mama’s heart strings! πŸ™‚

  2. Welcome to Photo Friday! I love checking out everyone’s blogs every week. Sand surfing looks like a blast – it seems like there would be too much friction to get any speed though! I’d love to try it!

    1. Thanks for reading and commenting! I’ve been visiting Photo Friday for awhile now, but this was my first time linking up (obviously). Sand boarding is a blast. On the packed sand, you FLY down the hill. Like sledding! On sandpaper. πŸ™‚
