Saddle Up! It’s Time for THE BARN PARTY at Sycamore Farm!

Do you know about the Wabash Valley Community Read? If you’re not familiar, let me be the one to introduce you to this annual event. Each year, the entire community is invited to read a chosen book. (Hence the name “Community Read”!) The 2015 book of choice is True Grit by Charles Portis.

Wabash Valley Community Read: True Grit

Over the course of the Community Read schedule, books are given away, movies are screened, music is performed, discussions are had, and parties are thrown.

Oh, yes. You read that right. There are parties. And they’re based on book themes! I feel no shame in admitting that this English major nerd finds this thrilling.

In case you’re not quite as nerdy as me (I set the bar pretty high), the Vigo County Public Library has asked me to tell you a bit more about what to expect at the Barn Party happening at Sycamore Farm.

I think even non-nerds will find this event exciting!

For starters, let’s talk location. Location is everything, right? And the Red Barn at Sycamore Farm is the perfect party location. Have you been inside? It’s gorgeous. If nothing else, go to the party for the barn.

Of course no great party would be complete without a little entertainment. Or, in this case, it sounds like there’s going to be a lot of entertainment.

Party goers will enjoy a live bluegrass band, western appetizers, wagon rides through Dobbs Park, a cash bar, and a reenactment of a “shoot out.” (Someone please take and send me a video!)

Want to turn this party into date night? Go for it! Want to bring the kids? Sure! This is a family-friendly event, but it is better suited for older kids (probably those who are 10 and older will have the most fun).

The Barn Party will take place Friday, March 27 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Sycamore Farm on East Poplar Drive in Terre Haute. There will be a live bluegrass band, western appetizers, and wagon rides through Dobbs Park.  The party may have a western theme, but it’s no stagecoach robbery. All the party will cost you is $5 per person and registration is required. Call the Vigo County Public Library to register, 812.232.1116!

Thank you to the Vigo County Public Library for sponsoring this post! The library’s partnership helps to keep Haute Happenings running at no cost to our readers. My enthusiasm (for books, parties, nerd culture, and the Red Barn at Sycamore Farm) is entirely my own.
