JUNE EVENTS IN TERRE HAUTE AND THE WABASH VALLEY

Thursday, June 22. Dinosaur Encounter at the CLINTON, IN Public Library. Dig up fossils and find special secrets with the scavenger hunt! Teens can paint a Dino Planter.

Thursday, June 22. Teen Community Hour at the Vigo County Public Library: Hygiene kits and blankets. Ages 12–18: When water and shelter are difficult to obtain, small items like a toothbrush or a warm blanket can make a difference in someone’s self-esteem and physical well-being! Stop by the Main Library any time between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 22 to help assemble hygiene kits and create tie blankets for the local homeless population while you meet others who share your interest in giving back to your community. Hygiene kits and blankets will be distributed to organizations that support the homeless throughout the community.

Friday, June 23. Summer Beach Bash at the Wigwam Skate and Event Center. Featuring a HUGE interactive water slide and beach ball balloon drop!  (This event has been canceled.)

Friday, June 23. Journey to the Moon: Summer Space Camp with the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 6 & Up: Visit the Moon this summer with your would-be astronaut and discover NASA’s Artemis mission—the first attempt NASA has made to put humans on the Moon in over fifty years! You and your family can participate in hands-on activities that will explore the intricacies of journeying to space, the methods used to protect a spacecraft, and the challenges of returning to Earth. Every week features a new topic to explore! Try your hand at creating a weight-bearing launch pad, learn how to track a spacecraft’s flight, trek across an interactive lunar surface, and more! Attendance at all six programs is not required but recommended.

Friday, June 23. The VCSC Performing Arts Workshop performance is Friday, June 23rd at 5:30 pm! Come check out “Groovy” at Woodrow Wilson Middle School. This performance is FREE and open to the public!

Featured event! Saturday, June 24. Early Bird deadline for Vigo County Youth Soccer Association rec and Kiddie Kicks soccer program. Register TODAY before the price increases! 

All games are played on Sunday afternoons in Fall 2023!

Saturday, June 24. Wine on the Wabash. Wine on the Wabash returns on Saturday, June 24th with a night of music – AND WINE – at Fairbanks Park! Music, food vendors, and wine! Children 12 and under FREE.

Saturday, June 24. Sixth Street Arts Festival in Downtown Terre Haute. Children’s creative area, beer garden, stage performances.

Saturday, June 24. Evening Roar with the Exotic Feline Rescue Center. Join for an after-hours adventure fit for the most wild of adults! Enjoy the first Evening Roar of 2023 on June 24th. and your ticket will unlock an unforgettable night with an exclusive after hours tour of the rescue center, plus beer and wine from local wineries and breweries, and best of all tasty food! You must be at least 21 to attend. Must show valid ID when checking in.

Saturday, June 24. Crossroads Yoga Festival at Hawthorn Park. In the Crossroads of America, we welcome the area’s first ever yoga festival, bridging together our uniqueness and celebrating movement, intentionality, breath and most importantly, connection. Featuring Mommy and Me yoga, slow flow yoga, breathwork, and mass meditation.

Saturday, June 24. National Road Heritage Trail bike ride through Vigo County. The group will depart at 9:00 AM from the north end of Fairbanks Park, then ride 1.5 miles west across the Wabash River and on the new scenic causeway trail to the Dewey Point Trailhead of Wabashiki Trail in West Terre Haute. From there, we’ll ride 4 miles round trip on the packed stone trail along the border of the Wabashiki Fish & Wildlife preserve. Returning to Terre Haute, we’ll then ride a 18-mile round trip on ISU’s trails & the NRHT, including stops at 2 Historic National Road Interpretive Panels, 1 of which is at a historic filling station on the Rose-Hulman campus, and a stop for lunch at the trailside Treehouse Eatery & Drinkery near the end of the ride. Total ride length will be 25 miles.

Saturday, June 24. Twelve Points Block Party. Maryland Community Church is excited to host a 12 Points Block Party on Saturday, June 24th from 11a-2pm. There will be fun for the whole family with food, games, inflatables and lots more. Bring your family, friends, and neighbors to join in on the action!

Featured event! Thursday, June 1. Summer Reading Kick-Off.

Ages 0–15: Slip and slide into Summer Reading with the best party ever—a foam party! Play in the blast from the Foam Homies’ foam cannon, toss around beach balls, and dance to the music. Before the party ends, sign up for the 2023 Summer Reading Program and select a free book to take home. Please wear quick-drying, comfortable clothes; foam is hypo-allergenic and dye-free. Toddlers age 3 and under will have a separate play area from older children.

This event celebrates the launch of the library’s 2023 Summer Reading Program. It’s FREE to join, and there will be prizes. Register the entire family via Beanstack!

Friday, June 2. First Friday in 12 Points is bigger than ever! Lafayette Ave will be closed from 3PM – 10 PM to give everyone a chance to hang out under the new lights. Look for comedian, cotton bandy, bounce castle, live music, sidewalk chalk, vendors, open mic night, and more!

Friday, June 2. Terre Foods Cooperative Market-Field to Fork Dinner with Federal Coffee and Fine Foods. Enjoy an incredible 4 course dinner and pairing @ Federal in support of Terre Foods Cooperative Market. Terre Foods is continuing its mission of creating a fully-functioning member-owned grocery store at 1253 Lafayette Ave by augmenting its Operating Budget and paving the way for major renovation and repairs under the guidance of Scott Lough. This and other fundraising efforts will allow Terre Foods to open its first 1,500 square foot store sometime in 2023. Funds will also be applied towards crucially-needed monthly operating funds. Prospective members are welcome to attend.

Regular yoga practice builds physical strength, increases flexibility and balance, and encourages mental clarity and calmness. Whether you’re just beginning yoga or are a regular practitioner, instructors from across the Wabash Valley will lead you and other participants through the importance of breath work, the common movements and poses, and the methods that reduce stress and cultivate the mind-body connection. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring your own mat. A limited number of yoga mats will be available if needed.

Saturday, June 3. Baby Social Hour: Sensory Play with the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 0–2: Your little one can broaden their horizons, explore new environments, and build their social skills while you learn how to encourage them to learn more about the world around them with sensory play tips from Kativa Tuttle, an Independent Consultant for Educational Play Environments. Tummy time mats, infant mirrors, and other infant-friendly toys will be available. After the presentation, socialize with other caregivers or ask Kativa Tuttle for more information and resources.

Saturday, June 2 – Monday, June 4. ROSEDALE Strawberry Fest. The 2023 Rosedale Strawberry Festival is a 3 day event that offers activities for all ages! A large variety of food and craft vendors indoors and outdoors! Live music all three days! A pet parade! There’s also a car show and a tractor show! A car parade of our local businesses and more!

Saturday, June 3. Kids Skate Free at the Wigwam Skate and Event Center. All kids 14 & under skate free on Saturday June 3 from 1:30pm – 4:00pm & 7:00pm – 10:00pm.

Saturday, June 3. Summer kick-off event at Terre Haute Once Upon a Child with character visits from 1-3pm.

Sunday, June 4. Canines for CODA at Fairbanks Park. Canines, bring your humans for a dog walk in Fairbanks Park benefitting CODA and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault! Monday, June 5. “Paws for Jax” movie night at the drive-in. FREE movie night (featuring Shark Tale) with proceeds to help “Paws for Jax” raise money for a service dog.

Tuesday, June 6. Pretty Funny Balloons at the CLINTON Public Library. Balloon twisting, jokes and even playing some balloon games! Pretty Funny Balloons will share what it is like to have the coolest job in the world!

Wednesday, June 7 – Wednesday, June 14. Basic vision, dental, and vision services offered for FREE to Hoosier families. This is a great way to get middle school and high school physicals.

Wednesday, June 7. Read to Rover at the WEST branch of the Vigo County Public Library. Share a book with a furry friend from Love on a Leash. These good-natured therapy dogs are eager to listen to your child practice reading aloud in a stress-free setting, complete with cuddles, belly rubs, and ear scratches!

Thursday, June 8. Strawberry Fest with First Congregational Church in Terre Haute. Get ready to indulge in the juiciest and most mouth-watering event of the year! That’s right, the Strawberry Fest is back and better than ever! On Thursday, June 8th, from 10 am to 7 pm, head down to the parking lot by First Congregational Church at 630 Ohio Street in Terre Haute to get your hands on a “heavenly” serving of strawberries, sweet biscuits, ice cream, and whipped cream – all for just $6! But that’s not all! This event will be buzzing with live music to get you in the festive spirit, and the kids will have a blast in the designated children’s area with face painting and other fun activities.

Saturday, June 10. Afterburner Summer Party and Market.  Join for a fun summer party on our patio and new outdoor space! We will have several awesome vendors, food trucks, live music and fun! This event is free and open to all ages!

Saturday, June 10. Delta Dude Pageant. Terre Haute’s first “Dude Pageant”!! If you are a dude or know a dude who would be perfect for this…get them signed up!!! We will select 10 dudes to get up on stage and strut their stuff while also raising money for many local non profits.

Saturday, June 10. Fintastik Fish with the Vigo County Public Library at Dobbs Park. Meet fellow anglers, learn more about local waterways, and discover easy-to-use apps for fishing enthusiasts at Fintastik Fish! You and your family will be introduced to fishing apps for your smartphone to track the weather, record your catch, and locate fishing spots—or you can download a citizen science app to connect to projects that use volunteers to design experiments, collect data, and solve problems to advance scientific knowledge about local ecology!

Tuesday, June 13. Pride Button Making at the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 12–18: Show off your individuality, your creativity, and your pride with a custom button designed by you! At Pride Button Making, you will use markers, paint, colored pencils, and more to design your own button graphic, use a button maker to assemble your button, and learn more about the importance of pinback buttons in the LGBTQIA+ community.

Thursday, June 15. Lego Lab with the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 6–11: Challenge your child’s construction skills, teamwork abilities, and creativity at Lego® Lab! Your child can attempt the monthly challenge or build their own designs. At the end of the evening, spend a few minutes touring everyone’s designs and learn how others solved problems in their own builds. Your child’s design will be part of a month-long display in Youth Services.

You and your family can visit the Schoolhouse to experience what life was like for early teachers and their students in a one-room schoolhouse, learn how quill pens were made, and listen to popular folktales from the 19th century.

Monday, June 19. Make Our World Beautiful at the Vigo County Public Library. Ages 6–12: You and your child can work together with others to create art, help people in the community, and make Terre Haute a beautiful place to live. Each session of Make Our World Beautiful will feature a story and STEAM activity.

Monday, June 19. Free movie (The Rise of Gru) at the Moonlite Drive-In thanks to the Vigo County Public Library. When eleven-year-old Gru receives an invitation to audition for the Vicious 6, a legendary supervillain team, he’s ecstatic—until he and his four Minions steal the Zodiac Stone from them. Unfortunately, one of the Minions loses the Stone nearly as quickly as Gru had gotten hold of it—and the Vicious 6 aren’t the only ones pursuing Gru and the Stone.
