3 reasons to get excited about ISU’s Homecoming

I’ve lived in Terre Haute long enough to know that some people think that Indiana State’s homecoming weekend is just an excuse for college students to drink too much and walk/stumble down Wabash Ave. The Walk (an unofficial ISU tradition) is legendary. But homecoming weekend is more than a bar crawl. In fact, as a parent, I look forward to it each and every year.

So what happens during homecoming that’s fun for kids and families? I’m glad you asked! Let me share a few highlights.

3 reasons to get excited about homecoming events at Indiana State University

For starters, there’s the ISU homecoming parade. We biked in the parade a few years ago, and our girls have been asking about it ever since!

2018 ISU Homecoming Parade

Saturday, October 13

Blue & White Parade: 9 a.m.

The 2018 Blue and White Homecoming Parade will begin at 9th and Cherry streets in downtown Terre Haute. The parade will run west on Wabash Avenue to 5th Street and will end at the intersection of 5th and Chestnut streets.

After the parade is over, alumni, students, faculty, staff, guests, fans, and friends are invited to Tent City. Tent City is surprisingly kid-friendly! You can expect kids to enjoy the games, music, activities, face painting, crafts, and an abundance of food to sample and enjoy. Most (maybe even all!) of these activities are free.

Hint: Tent City is ALWAYS colder than I expect it to be. Dress warmly!

After the Blue and White Parade, head out to Memorial Stadium to reconnect with classmates, academic units and student organizations. There’s something for everyone – food and fun!

And after Tent City, everyone is invited to cheer on the Sycamores at the Homecoming Football Game. This game draws a great crowd, and the energy and excitement is sure to be fun for both families and football lovers.

Football Game: Kick-off at 2:00 p.m. (October 13)

Homecoming wouldn’t be complete without football at Memorial Stadium. The Indiana State University Sycamores will host Missouri State University. For tickets and more information, visit the Hulman Center Box Office.

Fans are asked to enter the stadium off of Locust Street and park in designated areas. For safety reasons, glass bottles and containers are prohibited.
